St Kilda v Collingwood

With both teams looking for their first win of the season, this sets up to be a cracking game this Thursday night at the G.

Rather unimaginable to think that Collingwood are 0-2 after the season they had last year.

St Kilda went down in a thrilling finish to Geelong last week but yet again they look defensively sound.

The Pies look like they have a premiership hangover.

But, you know what they say? You can’t keep a good team down for long.

They will be hungry and should get over the line.

 

Adelaide Crows v Geelong Cats

Not sure if fans of these 2 teams will have any nails left after last weeks epic finishes.

Adelaide looked lost for most of the game but somehow with a few minutes to go found their “mojo” and almost got the job done.

Back to their home ground and a dry deck should do wonders.

Catters always grow a leg when playing at home so not quite sure what to make of that game.

They pose a threat, but i don’t believe it will be enough to stop the Crows at home.

North Melbourne v Fremantle

This Saturday arvo at Marvel Stadium is shaping up to be an absolute belter as North Melbourne lock horns with Fremantle for Round 2.

Last year’s match was a jaw-dropper, with the Roos pulling off a stunner against the Dockers. Despite North’s struggle since, winning only once in their last 22 games, they’re keen to repeat history.

Fremantle, on the back of a solid win against Brisbane, led by Caleb Serong’s record-breaking game, are looking to buck their poor track record at Marvel.

Dockers have this one in the bag.

Hawthorn v Melbourne

Heading into this Saturday arvo clash at the ‘G, Hawthorn Hawks are set to face off against the Melbourne Demons in their sole match-up of the 2024 Premiership season.

Following back-to-back wins for the Demons against the Hawks last year, Melbourne enters the game as the clear favourites, boasting a stellar seven wins from their last eight encounters against them.

Last weekend, Melbourne kicked off their season with a solid win against the Bulldogs, with Max Gawn leading from the front.

On the other hand, the Hawks are looking to rebound after their opening-round loss to Essendon, despite James Worpel’s commendable performance.

With the Demons dominating past meetings and Hawthorn’s recent struggles, all signs point towards a Melbourne victory. Expect Smart money’s on the Demons to continue their winning run.

Sydney Swans v Essendon

This Saturday night at the SCG is set to be a belter, with the Sydney Swans hosting the Essendon Bombers. Sydney’s off to a cracking start this season, with standout performances from Isaac Heeney leading them to early victories against Melbourne and Collingwood.

Essendon, not to be underestimated, kicked off their campaign with a solid win against Hawthorn, showcasing some sharpshooting that hasn’t been seen since 2008.

Last time these two met, it was a nail-biter with Sydney just edging out Essendon, thanks to Errol Gulden’s stellar game. Sydney’s dominance at home against Essendon is hard to ignore, boasting an impressive record in their recent matchups at the SCG.

The Bombers will be keen to turn the tide, but with Sydney’s form and home ground advantage, they’re looking tough to beat.

The Swans should continue their winning streak in what promises to be a tight contest but the Bombers will put up one hell of a fight.

Western Bulldogs v Gold Coast Suns

This Sunday arvo in Ballarat, the Western Bulldogs are set to take on the Gold Coast Suns in what’s shaping up to be a pivotal clash for both teams early in the 2024 season.

The Suns are looking to cement their status as top-eight contenders with a win on one of the AFL’s tougher road trips.

The Dogs, on the other hand, are desperate to avoid the all-too-familiar 0-2 start they’ve experienced in three of the last four seasons, especially after a hefty loss to Melbourne in round one.

History leans towards the Bulldogs, who’ve had the wood over the Suns in Ballarat previously, but the Suns are no pushovers.

The Dogs eager to right the ship and the Suns keen to build on their early successes.

Our eyes are on the Bulldogs, the Suns don’t play well against the Dogs in Melbourne.

Richmond v Port Adelaide

This Sunday arvo at the ‘G, the Richmond Tigers are set to to take on the Port Adelaide Power, with the Tigers desperate to dodge an 0-3 start for the first time since 2010.

After a narrow loss to Carlton, Richmond’s looking to turn the tide, while Port Adelaide’s coming off a strong win against West Coast, though their accuracy left a bit to be desired.

Port’s recent dominance in interstate games as favourites and Richmond’s struggle to cover the line paint a picture of a Power advantage. Yet, the Tigers’ resilience and the sheer unpredictability of footy mean anything could happen.

With both sides boasting game-changers like Lynch and Taranto for the Tigers, and Butters and Rozee for the Power, this match is teed up to be a cracker.

Port Adelaide might have the bookies edge, but at the ‘G this week, our money is with the Tigers.

West Coast Eagles v GWS Giants

This Sunday arvo at Optus Stadium, the West Coast Eagles are hosting GWS, with both teams looking to build on contrasting starts to the 2024 season.

GWS has hit the ground running this season, with Tom Green and Jesse Hogan firing in their recent win over North Melbourne.

The Eagles, meanwhile, are aiming to turn around their fortunes following a hefty defeat to Port Adelaide, marking a concerning trend of heavy losses.

The Giants are coming into this game with a strong away record and will be tough to beat, especially with their recent form against top-four opponents.

The Eagles have their work cut out for them, but with home-ground advantage and players like Tim Kelly looking to make an impact, they’ll be hoping for an upset (I did say hoping).
