PointsBet, an Australian sports betting provider that focuses on the North American betting market, has joined forces with the NHL Alumni Association (NHLAA). The ASX-listed wagering operator will become the exclusive sports betting partner of the NHLAA in Canada and will also be the association’s official partner in the US.

The bookmaker will get the licensing and marketing rights to the NHLAA and will also benefit from being linked to illustrious former NHL players like Nicklas Lidstrom and Paul Coffey.

Partnering with NHLAA a Top Priority for PointsBet

The NHLAA was founded more than two decades ago and is dedicated to improving the lives of former hockey players and their families. The Alumni Association helps former NHL players financially but also offers mental and emotional support and aids in their transition from full-time players to retired athletes.

Nic Sulsky, PointsBet’s Chief Commercial Officer in Canada, said that partnering with the NHL Alumni Association was a top priority ever since PointsBet entered Canada.

Sulsky added that they loved being part of the “institution” Saturday night hockey was and that the bookmaker being linked to names like Mike Vernon and Paul Coffey would help them give fans and bettors an authentic Canadian gaming experience.

PointsBet Operates Using In-House Technology

PointsBet is one of only a few sports betting providers that owns and controls all of its sports betting and gaming technology. Most of PointsBet’s rivals outsource the creation and maintenance of their wagering platforms and other crucial operations to third parties.

Because PointsBet uses in-house technology and sports betting solutions, it can offer better speeds and ease of use to punters wagering on PointsBet’s pre-match and in-play betting markets.

PointsBet’s Dedication to Responsible Gaming Was Key

According to Glenn Healy, the NHLAA’s President and Executive Director, the people in the association loved that PointsBet appreciated the things that made their Alumni unique.

Healy said that their mission was to “Honour the Past” and to be there for all NHL Alumni as well as their families, and PointsBet fully embraced that.

Another reason why NHLAA picked PointsBet as its partner was the bookmaker’s focus on legal and responsible betting and gambling.  The NHLAA president said they always maintained that their partner would have to play within the rules, and PointsBet fit that description to the tee.
