Sports betting giants Entain plc, formerly known as GVC Holdings, is partnering up with Verizon Media to create a global innovation alliance that will come up with innovative sports viewing and betting solutions.

Entain, the owner of popular Aussie sportsbooks Ladbrokes and Neds, will work together with Verizon Media to develop fully immersive Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) solutions for sports betting enthusiasts to enjoy.

Bringing New Technologies to Sports Betting

The two companies will use these emerging technologies in conjunction with 5G Internet to create immersive sports betting and gambling content. The idea is to bring sports betting closer to the punter who will be able to experience sports wagering like never before.

Right now, Entain customers can bet on pregame markets, as well as live betting propositions. The company also enables live streaming of popular sports events and is among the most forward-thinking sports betting organizations.

Betting Innovations

With the Verizon partnership, however, Entain also expects to introduce lots of other punter-friendly betting innovations. These would include things such as being able to participate in sports events, be in the stadium, bet on outcomes as you see them play out in front of you, and so on.

The CEO of Entain, Shay Segev said that if they wanted to be successful in the future, they would have to understand where consumers will be in five or ten years’ time.

He said that the company’s goal was to bring friends who are in different parts of the world together for a game. They would then be able to watch, interact, and bet on the same game by sitting next to each other in the virtual stadium. They could also compete during half time or go down to the pitch themselves.

Verizon Media CEO, Guru Gowrappan, was also happy with the newly formed sports betting alliance and said that the collaboration between the companies would take their relationship to a new level.

Gowrappan claimed that they could bring the best out of sports betting and entertainment by building the next-generation of content experiences for sports and gaming fans.

Building on an Existing Partnership

The successful partnership between the two companies builds on an already fruitful collaboration between Yahoo Sports and BetMGM. Yahoo Sports is part of Verizon Media, whereas BetMGM is an Entain and MGM Resorts joint venture for Entain’s US betting market.

Because of this successful relationship, punters in the US, who are located in jurisdictions in which betting is legal, can place an MGMBet sports wager without leaving the Yahoo Sports app.
