NRL Footy Tips Round 17

Dragons vs Warriors

Friday, June 23, 2023

8:00 PM @ Wollongong Stadium

Strap in for a ripper of a game this Friday as the Dragons take on the Warriors in the Round 17 opener at the WIN Stadium, Wollongong. The stakes? Well, for the Warriors, it’s all about holding their place in the top eight, while the Dragons are just about to test their mettle after some recent shake-ups in the team. Trust me; emotions will be high.

Now, let’s talk teams. The Dragons, in 15th position, are having a bit of a rough season and have yet to bag back-to-back wins. However, they have a thing going for them: they’ve got Jack Bird back on deck, and Ben Hunt, fresh off Origin II, is set to play alongside Jayden Sullivan. Some strong players there, no doubt.

But then we’ve got the Warriors, who are sitting pretty in the 6th position. Shaun Johnson’s on fire this season, leading the charge up the NRL ladder. His form, along with the likes of Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and Dallin Watene-Zelezniak, has been instrumental in their success. With Dylan Walker back on the bench and Rocco Berry returning at centre, they’re not to be taken lightly.

So, who’s got the edge? The Dragons have shown they can pull off an upset, but the Warriors are clear favourites here. They’ve already chalked up eight wins this season and are gunning for more. And while we’re expecting a tightly contested match, I reckon the Warriors might just edge out the Dragons in this one. My prediction? Warriors to win in a nail-biter, 24-18.

Betting Tip: Warriors

Suggested Bet: Warriors HEAD-to-HEAD

Dolphins vs Eels

Saturday, June 24, 2023

3:00 PM @ Sunshine Coast Stadium

This weekend is looking to be a real cracker, with the Dolphins taking on the Eels in Round 17 of the NRL. The match is set to be held at the Sunshine Coast Stadium, and let’s be honest, it’s gonna be a close one.

Now, the Dolphins haven’t had it easy. They’re coming off a tough 58-18 loss to Manly before last week’s bye. They’ve made several changes to their lineup with the return of Felise Kaufusi from suspension and the possibility of Sean O’Sullivan returning from injury. Brenko Lee, however, is out with a leg issue, and Brayden McGrady is debuting on the wing.

On the other side, the Eels are in a pretty solid spot, riding the wave of a four-game winning streak. They’ve got their big guns, Mitch Moses and Junior Paulo, coming back from Origin duty. Plus, they might even have Shaun Lane back from a hamstring injury.

Looking at all this, my gut tells me the Eels have got this one. They’ve got momentum, they’re getting their stars back, and they’ve been playing some good footy. I’m predicting a 24-14 win for the Eels.

Betting Tip: Eels

Suggested Bet: Eels HEAD-to-HEAD

Panthers vs Knights

Saturday, June 24, 2023

5:30 PM @ Penrith Stadium

It’s the Panthers versus the Knights, and boy oh boy, it’s sure to be a real barn burner. Now, here’s the thing. Both teams have been tearing it up this year in the NRL, especially when it comes to tackle breaks. The Panthers are leading the pack with an average of 39.9 per game, and the Knights aren’t far behind in third place averaging 38.4.

Look out for Knights’ winger, Dom Young. He’s been on fire, sitting at the top of the NRL try-scoring charts with 16 tries. And get this, he’s managed this feat despite playing two fewer games than the other top scorer, Maika Sivo. Talk about efficiency, right?

But here’s where it gets juicy. History is on the Panthers’ side, big time. They’ve won 11 and drawn one of their last 13 games against the Knights. Now that’s what I call domination! The Knights, on the other hand, well, they’ve won just one of their six away games in 2023. Not looking too good for them, is it?

Plus, Brian To’o from the Panthers, he’s got a knack for scoring against the Knights with five tries in five games. So, will the Knights manage to nab their 400th win since joining the premiership in 1988, or will the Panthers continue their hot streak, having won six of their past seven games at their home ground, the BlueBet Stadium?

Here’s my take: The Panthers are looking mighty strong. They’ve got the momentum, the history, and the home ground advantage. I reckon they’ll take this one with a 13+ point margin. So, grab your popcorn and get ready for some top-notch footy!

Betting Tip: Panthers

Suggested Bet: Panthers WINNING MARGIN 13+

Storm vs Sea Eagles

Saturday, June 24, 2023

7:35 PM @ Melbourne Rectangular Stadium

This weekend is shaping up to be an absolute belter, as the Melbourne Storm and Manly Sea Eagles are set to clash on the rugby field at AAMI Park. Kick-off is at 7:35pm AEST this Saturday, 24th of June, 2023.

Now, let’s talk turkey. The Melbourne Storm are tipped to be the favourites for this encounter. They have been in cracking form this season, and going by their recent games, they certainly seem to have the upper hand.

The betting odds reflect this as well. With the Storm currently at $1.22 compared to the Sea Eagles’ $4.30, it’s not hard to see who the bookies are backing. But hey, footy is a funny old game, and anything can happen on the day, right?

The experts are predicting a bit of a tight match. The Storm are currently listed as 12.5-point favourites. That means if you’re a betting kind of person, and you fancy the Storm to win by more than 12.5 points, you could make a nice little profit.

But enough of the odds and ends, let’s get to the good stuff – the action on the field. One name that’s been on everyone’s lips is Xavier Coates. This guy has been lighting up the NRL this season, and he’s tipped to score the first try in the game. With a 50.6% chance of scoring a try at any time during the game, Coates is a man to watch.

As for the final score, well, that’s anyone’s guess. But if I were a betting man, my money would be on the Storm to take this one out 26-18. That would certainly keep the Storm fans happy, and it’s not an unrealistic scoreline given their current form.

Betting Tip: Storm

Suggested Bet: Storm WINNING MARGIN 13+

Broncos vs Titans

Sunday, June 25, 2023

2:00 PM @ Suncorp Stadium

Get ready for an exciting clash between the Brisbane Broncos and the Gold Coast Titans at Suncorp Stadium this Sunday afternoon. The Titans are entering a crucial stage in their season, with 11 consecutive fixtures ahead of them. Currently holding a 6-7 record, they need to find consistency if they hope to secure a spot in the finals. On the other hand, the Broncos are sitting comfortably at the top of the table, riding a three-match winning streak before their well-timed bye week. It was a fortunate break for them, allowing their four Queensland camp players to recharge.

Although Selwyn Cobbo missed out on Origin due to a hip complaint, he’s been named on the wing for the Broncos, joining their four Maroons. Additionally, Brendan Piakura steps in to replace the injured Kurt Capewell in the forward pack. The Titans, on the other hand, welcome back Kieran Foran and David Fifita, two valuable additions to their lineup. Furthermore, their three other Origin representatives have been named to back up.

Taking all of this into consideration, it seems like the Broncos have the upper hand in this match. With their recent strong performances and the Titans’ struggles against top-four opponents, the Broncos are poised to come out on top. Furthermore, the Broncos have won their last three matches with a margin of 1 to 12 points and are determined to make their mark a little firmer this round. Considering these factors, a convincing victory for the Broncos by a margin of 13 points or more seems like a realistic outcome.

Betting Tip: Broncos

Suggested Bet: Broncos WINNING MARGIN 13+

Rabbitohs vs Cowboys

Sunday, June 25, 2023

4:05 PM @ Stadium Australia

Get ready for a thrilling showdown between the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the North Queensland Cowboys at Accor Stadium this Sunday arvo. Now, let’s dive into the pre-match analysis and figure out who’s likely to come out on top in this NRL clash.

First up, the Rabbitohs haven’t been in their best form lately, with three losses out of their last four games. However, they did get a week off to regroup and recharge, which could give them an edge. Unfortunately, they’ll be missing Latrell Mitchell, but Cody Walker is set to start, bringing his dynamic playmaking skills to the field. Jed Cartwright will replace Jacob Host in the second row, and the return of Thomas Burgess and Davvy Moale via the interchange should bolster their pack.

On the other side, the Cowboys are coming in hot, bagging impressive wins against the Storm and Panthers, sandwiched between a bye week. But here’s the kicker: their away record this season is abysmal, with just one victory out of seven. Ouch! That puts them at a disadvantage on foreign turf, and Accor Stadium is no picnic.

Now, let’s talk numbers. The Rabbitohs have had the wood on the Cowboys in recent times, winning their last seven encounters. That’s a solid streak they’ll be eager to maintain. Plus, the Bunnies have dominated the first and second halves in four out of their last five matches against the Cowboys, showing they can sustain their performance throughout the game.

Looking at the betting odds, the Rabbitohs have been hitting the over on the total match points line in their past four games. So, expect some high-scoring action! However, the Cowboys have covered the line in five of their last six matches, indicating they can keep it tight even in defeat.

Let’s shift our focus to the players. Richard Kennar has been on fire, scoring in each of his last four outings, while Kyle Feldt has been matching him stride for stride with his own four-match try streak. Keep an eye out for Jack Gosiewski, who loves finding the try line at Accor Stadium, scoring in his last three appearances there. Campbell Graham and Reuben Cotter have also been consistently crossing over, adding to their teams’ point tally.

And we can’t forget Alex Johnston, who’s been an absolute try-scoring machine for the Rabbitohs, bagging two or more tries in three of their last four games. His speed and finishing prowess could be a decisive factor in this clash.

Based on recent form, the Rabbitohs have the upper hand, especially with their solid track record against the Cowboys. I reckon it’s gonna be a close one, with the Rabbitohs clinching a hard-fought victory. Let’s say the final score will be Rabbitohs 28, Cowboys 24.

Betting Tip: Rabbitohs

Suggested Bet: Rabbitohs HEAD-to-HEAD

Roosters vs Raiders

Sunday, June 25, 2023

6:15 PM @ Allianz Stadium

Get ready for an exciting clash between the Sydney Roosters and the Canberra Raiders this Sunday evening. The Roosters secured a crucial 18-16 victory over the Knights last week, leveling their season record at 7-7. Despite their position on the table, they’re determined to climb higher. The Raiders had a disappointing loss to the Warriors but had a bye week to regroup. Both teams have made lineup decisions, with Luke Keary returning for the Roosters and the Raiders sticking with their same 17 players.

Canberra has covered the line in eight of their last nine matches as underdogs, and they’ve won their last five matches after a bye. However, the Roosters have performed well in night matches, with six of their last nine going under the total points line.

Player-wise, James Tedesco has been in top form, scoring in his last three appearances. Josh Papalii and Jarrod Croker have also had success against the Roosters in previous games. Hudson Young has been a reliable scorer for the Raiders against lower-ranked opponents, while Joseph Manu has excelled at home against Canberra.

Considering all the factors, the Sydney Roosters have the edge in this close game. With the return of key players, home ground advantage, and a strong record against the Raiders, they’re likely to come out on top. Expect a thrilling battle, with the Roosters winning by less than 12 points.

Betting Tip: Roosters

Suggested Bet: Roosters WINNING MARGIN 1-12
