At the time of writing Ladbrokes had the head to head for Wests Tigers set at $3.10, and $1.36 for the Cronulla Sharks, This sets the bookmakers implied probability for both teams as follows:
The bookies are heavy on the Sharks, giving them nearly a 70% shot at taking this one out. But our numbers reckon it’s a lot tighter than that, with the Sharks only slightly ahead at 57.40%.
The Tigers, meanwhile, are being seriously undervalued. The market’s got them at 30.48%, but our model says they’ve got a much better crack at it, sitting at 42.60%.
Based on our data, the true odds for the Tigers should be more like $2.35, but the bookies have them at $3.10. That’s a solid edge and a nice value opportunity if you’re keen on the underdog.
The Sharks are still the rightful favourites, but the Tigers are way better than the odds suggest. If our numbers are on the money, jumping on Wests at $3.10 is a value bet with some real upside.
Let’s see how both sides stack up based on current season performance:
What to do?
Despite the Sharks’ stronger away scoring and win record, the Tigers hold a surprisingly strong overall power ranking and aren’t that far behind in scoring metrics. It’s a much closer game than the odds suggest.
The Sharks are worthy favourites, but the Tigers are being seriously underrated. With our numbers giving them a 42.60% chance and the bookies only pricing them at 30.48%, the $3.10 on offer is great value for a side that’s well and truly in this game.
Taking the Wests Tigers for the +6.5 line is the best option for a bet this week, closely followed by the UNDER 46.5.
Scoring predictions sit at 20-21 in favour of the Sharks, however, even though a 1 point upset is unlikely, the Westies keeping the game super close is.
The OVER/UNDER tempo for this match is at 40.3 while our predicted total points are at 44, both below the 46.5 so the UNDER is a solid bet also.
