Just two we’re keen on at the Gold Coast today, so it’s a card to be picky at rather than have a big swing. The track’s a Soft 5 and the weather’s fine, so nothing tricky underfoot, this is about finding the right couple of races. We land in Race 6 and Race 7, both over the sprint and mile trips, and both look like they can settle off the speed and finish over the top of them. Enforceable is short at $1.80 in the 7 and does plenty right, but the value read for us is Swift Duke at $3.50 in the 6, and that’s where we’re happy to have our main go.

Race 6
1200m · Handicap · 9 runners

10. Swift Duke $3.50

Barrier 3 · Off Pace · Soft pace

#10 Swift Duke is the one I want here. Gate 3, and while he does get back, he’s got the turn of foot to pick them off late, which is exactly what you want in a race with no genuine leader. He’s second-up now after running fourth fresh, so there’s more improvement to come. $3.50, I’m with him.

Race 7
1400m · Handicap · 9 runners

7. Enforceable $1.80

Barrier 7 · Off Pace · No leader

Visors go on for the first time and that’s the hook on #7 Enforceable. No genuine leader in this one, but he doesn’t need the speed, he settles back and comes home strong when it counts. A win and two placings his last three, Ashley Butler stays on for Bevan Laming. He’s short at $1.80, but I’m happy to have it.
