Everyone will be on the short ones at Doomben today, and that is where we think the card gets it wrong. Emphatique in Race 1 is $5.00 and drawn 9, which puts a few off her, but nobody is going hard early in that race and she gets to settle midfield with something left. Good 4 and fine overhead, so no excuses either way. Three we like out of the eight, and the other two are both prices we are happy to take on, Miss Funny Honey at $7.00 in the 7 and Rimbaud in the last. Not a card to go through, just pick your spots and let the rest go.

Nobody’s putting their hand up to lead here, and #3 Indamouse gets back off the speed in a 12-horse field at $4.20. Not for me. #8 Emphatique lands midfield from gate 9 and knows how to finish off a race; she was placed twice earlier this prep before a plain sixth last start. Jag Guthmann-Chester rides and she’s $5. Good enough for me.

#10 Miss Funny Honey won her last start and I like where she’s at. She’ll get back, sure, but so does the favourite #2 Dark Arts, and I’m not paying $3.10 for the same problem. Gate 5 and Bella Youngberry on top should give her the cleaner run at $7. Easy call.

Give me #2 Rimbaud at $5. There’s no real speed in this, and from gate 6 he can push straight to the front with the tongue tie back on. #8 Hurricane Lu is $3.80 and has to get across from gate 10 first, and she still hasn’t won a race this time in.
