Caulfield Horse Racing Tips Wed 17/6/26

Where’s the value on a quiet midweek deck? Beautifully in Race 2 is our best bet, drawn 5 and likely to find the front in a small field with no real pressure up front. The track is a Soft 6, so we want horses that can control the tempo or come from off the speed when the leaders stop. Six we like across the eight, a couple of nice prices among them, and Race 5 throws up a big field worth a look. Honest card, just have to pick your spots.

Race 1
12:25pm · 1500m · Mdn Plate · 7 runners

2. Obon $5.00

Barrier 4 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

The favourite’s no good to me at $2.20. Triumvirate keeps running into the placings without winning, and that’s short for one still trying to break through. #2 Obon drops in behind them from gate 4, and with genuine speed up front he gets the race run to suit. Two seconds and a third lately tell me he’s ready to finish one off. At $5, I’m on him each-way.

2. Beautifully $3.90

Barrier 5 · Leader · Soft pace

Not much speed engaged, so #2 Beautifully gets to roll forward and control it from gate 5. The blinkers go on, Craig Williams takes the ride, and he’s saluted a couple of times in his last few. The favourite has to come from the back and round them up, which is a big ask when nothing’s pressuring the leader. At $3.90, I’m with him to win.

Race 4
2:10pm · 1800m · Hcp (Bm70) · 8 runners

3. Rasp $5.00

Barrier 7 · Midfield · No leader

Five bucks for #3 Rasp beats taking $2.40 on #8 Oak Beach. Rasp won last start, and from gate 7 he settles midfield and gets his run late. He can be his own worst enemy, but at that price I’m on.

Race 5
2:45pm · 1500m · Hcp (Bm66) · 12 runners

6. Blue Bandit $8.00

Barrier 7 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

Blinkers and tongue tie on #6 Blue Bandit, and a genuine tempo means he gets dragged into the race late off his back spot. He won last start, Jye McNeil sticks from gate 7. The fav, #3 Dantooine, has to do all the work out in front at $5. At $8, I’m happy to take the one finishing over the top.

Race 7
3:55pm · 1000m · Hcp (Bm74) · 11 runners

2. Rich Dottie $4.60

Barrier 3 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

I’m with #2 Rich Dottie at $4.60. Genuine speed up front tows him into it from gate 3, blinkers on, and the leading fav has to do all the work out front. Easy.

Race 8
4:30pm · 1200m · Hcp (Bm70) · 12 runners

3. Prince Tycoon $5.00

Barrier 4 · Pace · Genuine pace

#3 Prince Tycoon came back and won first-up, so he’s second-up now and should be even better for it. From gate 4 he lands a soft spot on-pace while the genuine speed does the work, and the favourite has to get back from gate 12 out wide. $5 on him, to win.
