Who are Unibet?
Unibet are one of a handful of operations owned by the Kindred Group.
A European enterprise that operates in the wagering space internationally, with its headquarters based in Valetta, Malta.
The chairman and founder of Kindred Group is Swedish entrepreneur Anders Strom, who also has responsibility for the Unibet brand globally, among other businesses.
Unibet came to Australia during 2012, and has seen the industry grow and prosper as other players came into the market.
Indeed, there was much ownership activity between 2013 and 2019 with many betting agency operations changing hands.
About Unibet Australia
Unibet’s Australian operations are licensed and regulated by the Northern Territory Government.
In 2012, Unibet acquired the existing operator Betchoice, which was subsequently rebranded to Unibet (Australia). Betchoice themselves were founded in 2001 and acquired a Northern Territory licence in 2006.
Despite the name change and acquisition, Betchoice still features in the rebranded operation, being used for administration purposes mostly.
Unibet (Betchoice) has its administrative offices based in Sydney. It also runs a call-centre out of Darwin, NT.
Unibet sponsors many activities globally, but none in Australia as at the start of 2020.
Unibet Website/App Overview
Sign Up Process
The sign-up process is very much standard to all other Australian betting agencies.
All customers must verify their accounts (for withdrawal purposes) via the 100 points of identification system. The grace period is 90 days which is standard across the wagering industry.

The website URL is: https://unibet.com.au. The standard browser view and responsive view look rather similar, so it gives the overall impression of consistency, which is good.
Unless it was my bad luck on the day of review, I found the entire Unibet access very slow (through a Telstra network), so it didn’t make for a good user experience.
Unibet provides access to their platform via Apple/iOS and Google/Android.
However from the main website, it is not easy to initially find these two apps (APKs). In the hamburger menu, you will see an option called b>Unibet App</, but it doesn’t link to either the IOS or Android app. In fact, the page it is supposed to link to is not even available on the mobile app!
Use these two direct links instead:
In all honesty, there is not a lot of difference visually between what you see on a browser and what you see on the mobile app. The only difference we perceive is that of performance on your phone, for which the mobile – usually comes out the winner.
Funding Types/Deposit Methods
Unibet allows for the following deposit methods:
- Credit Cards
Maximum and minimum deposit amounts are $10,000 and $20.
Minimum bet amount is $10 over the phone, 0.10c online.
Unibet now offers three withdrawal options:
- Bank transfer
- credit cards
Previously, it used to be just bank transfers.
Unibet does not offer this facility.
Again, the usual market activities from around the globe and within Australia are here. Principally the three racing codes of thoroughbreds, harness and greyhounds are here. Selected overseas markets are here too (USA, Singapore etc).
Click on: Menu >> Racing
The football codes are well represented, in fact there is not one gapo that I can see.
Click on Menu >> Sports.
Unibet has many promotions available, plus customers can take advantage of the Unibet Uplift facility, which enables enhanced odds on the three codes of racing in Australia.
The Unibet Uplift facility is highly visible, and can be seen at the top of every race card. So there should be no excuses for not taking advantage of enhanced odds.
As far as Racing is concerned, all the usual suspects are here: win, place, exacta, quinella, trifecta and first four. For boxed options, click on the yellow coloured ‘Exotics’ button at the bottom of the race card. Nothing out of the ordinary here.
For other Sports, you’ll need to go into each sport type to see what markets are available. For team sports etc, it is usually a win option for either team, or a draw. Other sports have numerous markets (line markets etc) such as Basketball and Tennis. Investigate at your leisure.
Note: the interface seems to jump around a bit. You think you’re on one screen and then it jumps backwards, while the speed to load isn’t the best. On your system, your mileage may vary.
Other Betting Features
We make a list of all the features we see across most/all online betting agency platforms, and check to see if the particular agency being reviewed has them.
Yes, live streaming is available through Unibet for certain sports, including horse racing. Click on the button/option called ‘Streaming’.
The following functions are visible on the race card. Admittedly, the navigation through this section wasn’t the best experience to be had. By far the best (IMO) is the Ladbrokes race card.
This function is not available on Unibet.
Yes, these are visible per runner. Click on ‘Comments’, then the ‘Full Form’ button, you’ll see the Fluctuations displayed as a graph.
This function is not available on Unibet.
Yes, these are available on the Unibet platform. Click on ‘Map’ from any race (thoroughbred, harness or greyhound). The speed maps (when viewed on mobile) can only be viewed in landscape mode.
Unibet calls this a ‘Race Overview’. Yes these are visible per race. Refer to the bottom of the race card at the footer of the screen, just above ‘Tips’.
Extended Form Guide
Yes, these are visible per runner. Click on ‘Comments’, then the ‘Full Form’ button, there is a raft of information there about the runner you have selected.
Yes these are visible per race. Refer to the bottom of the race card at the footer of the screen.
In the past, Unibet has been the recipient of industry awards for this very category.
Unless you are visually impaired, you’ll have no problem seeing all the visual cues from Unibet regarding Responsible Gambling.
From the menu, go to: Responsible Gambling and Pre-Commitment Limits.
Or, the direct URL is: click here..
Customer and Online Help
Online Help is accessible from the menu, refer: Help Centre.

I understand the Unibet platform has been upgraded since its 2012 inception, and it would have needed to, just to keep pace with technology trends and competitor developments.
However, there wasn’t one distinct advantage that Unibet had over other betting agencies that we’ve reviewed (and updated) thus far.
I wasn’t enamoured about the interface, being constantly reminded about Responsible Gambling at the bottom of the screen was a nuisance to be honest.
The race card interface really needs a lot more work thrown at it if it wants to compete with other competitors, while the amount of markets available isn’t as extensive as I thought it would be.
More importantly (unless I picked a bad day to be reviewing Unibet), the access speed around the website and app was markedly slow. I’ll give them the benefit of a doubt this time.
Unfortunately, if I was a first time online punter, I’d probably be looking elsewhere truth be told.
