Swan Hill Races

Swan Hill Racecourse is located in the centre of the Murray Region, 340 kilometres from Melbourne.

Swan Hill Racecourse June racing festival has earned a name for itself as the best country festival in the state, if not the entire nation. The advice is to book as soon as possible because all nearby lodging alternatives sell out six months in advance.

The Murray Mallee Winter Series, The Bottle-O Christmas Party Races, and the main three days of racing at the bet365 Swan Hill June Racing Carnival are just a few of the feature events at Swan Hill Racecourse that will have your heart racing!

The Track

Swan Hill Racecourse has a home straight that is 475 metres long with a track circumference of 1900 metres. Sprint races give extended runs to the first turn on the wide-open course.

The home’s straight track width is 25 metres. The track rises from the winning post to the 1600 metres before levelling down until the start of the home turn. The track is thoroughly irrigated and has lush grass, perfect for racing.

The Tracks History

Swan Hill served as the site of the Lower Murray Amateur Turf Club’s first race meeting in 1856 and subsequent meets up to 1861. The Swan Hill Jockey Club took over in 1862, and on May 14 that year, they held their first race meeting as part of a three-day event with three races each day. The first known Swan Hill Cup covered a 2-mile course held three years later.

The first Swan Hill June Racing Carnival was conducted in 1979; ever since then, it has been a highlight of the racing calendar. People attend the Carnival from all across Australia to take advantage of the racing and the available cuisine, wine, and social festivities. The Swan Hill Jockey Club has a long history in Australian horse racing and continues to offer top-notch racing and entertainment.

Most Famous Race Held At Swan Hill

The June Racing Carnival is a well-liked Country Victorian racing event annually attracting spectators from nearby communities, states, and other countries. Get in early because all local lodging options sell out months in advance. The 2022 June Carnival broke all attendance and on-course records, making up for the forced COVID suspension that harmed racegoers. This helped to revive the district’s shattered hospitality, lodging, and tourism industries.

The three-day carnival at Swan Hill Racecourse begins on Friday with the $75,000 Golden Topaz Stakes over the Queens Birthday holiday weekend in June.

After a family day on Saturday, the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club Swan Hill Cup, worth $75,000, will take place.

The marquees line the straight as far as the eye can see, with pre-sales rising yearly. Every racegoer has a choice, from single or two individuals to enormous corporate marquees.
