Both these sides have won two, lost two and won their last one. On the form guide there is nothing in it, and the market still rates Penrith nine and a half points better. Lists are in and Penrith are the only side of the two changing a spine position. It does not move my number.

Look at the two form guides on this page. Same five results, same order, and yet one of these teams is second and the other is ninth. That is what a season of margins does, and it is why I am not talking myself out of the favourite on recent results alone.

Penrith’s defence is doing two jobs at once

This is how a fifteen point margin and a total under forty and a half live in the same night. Penrith do not need to put fifty on anyone. They keep Canterbury near their own average, take their chances, and the handicap and the total both land off the same work.

The Bulldogs have already beaten Penrith this year

This is the part I have to answer. Canterbury come here chasing back to back wins over the Panthers after getting them earlier in the season, and they put 44 on the Dragons last week. What is different is where Penrith have just been: they went to AAMI Park in Round 25 and beat the Storm 22-14, which is a harder night than this one.
