NRL Betting Predictions & Tips Round 8

22 April 2026

Round 8 has something for everyone – a five-and-a-half point pricing error on the Broncos at home, a winless Dragons side meeting a Roosters outfit that just hung 38 on the Knights, and a Storm team on a five-game losing streak that the market still can’t stop installing as favourites. Eight games Thursday through Sunday, Cronulla on the bye after their own bye week, and plenty of value scattered across the card.

Manly are 3-0 away and 0-3 at home. Penrith are back on top after a Bulldogs speed bump. The Tigers are third. And the Dolphins are going to Wellington. Here’s where the model likes the money.

Thursday, April 23

Wests Tigers vs Canberra Raiders

Tigers sit third on the ladder and are conceding just 19.4 a game over the last five – and they host the Raiders at Leichhardt Oval with rain in the forecast. The kind of suburban-ground arm wrestle that rewards the better defensive outfit. Canberra arrive with genuine heat, fresh off back-to-back wins over the Rabbitohs and Storm, so there is attacking threat on the road. But the model has Tigers by 6, the market has them at -5.5 – a razor-thin half-point edge – and confidence sits at 51%. The head-to-head is where the value lives, not the line.

BEST BET
TIGERS vs RAIDERS • LEICHHARDT OVAL
Tip: TIGERS H2H
Odds: $1.56
Confidence
5/10
Opportunity: The spread edge is basically nothing – half a point – so the line isn’t the play. The H2H at $1.56 is backing the better defensive side on their ground in conditions that suit them. Tigers lost 20-21 to the Broncos at Campbelltown last round in exactly this kind of low-scoring grind. A 22-20 Tigers win doesn’t cover -5.5, but it wins you the head-to-head. Back the outcome, not the margin.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Cronulla Sharks

The Sharks are priced as -2.5 favourites, but the form line has the Cowboys every way. North Queensland are 4-1 across their last five, conceding 21.8 a game. Cronulla are 2-3 in the same window and shipping 28.4. The model has the Cowboys winning by 2, the market has the Sharks by 2.5 – a five-point swing, and the value sits on the home side at plus money. The only wobble is last week’s 38-6 home hiding from Manly. Before that, Queensland Country Bank Stadium had been a fortress, and Friday night rain suits the side defending better.

BEST BET
COWBOYS vs SHARKS • QLD COUNTRY BANK STADIUM
Tip: COWBOYS H2H
Odds: $2.12
Confidence
6/10
Opportunity: Plus money on the better recent form, the tighter defence, and the home side. Cowboys are 4-1 over the last five conceding 21.8; Sharks are 2-3 leaking 28.4. Cronulla are coming off a loss to the Roosters and haven’t travelled well this year. The Manly result is the one thing keeping confidence in check – if that version of the Cowboys shows up, the market line looks generous. But the weight of evidence says the hosts.

Brisbane Broncos vs Canterbury Bulldogs

The clearest pricing error on the card. The Broncos are 4-1 over their last five with a defensive average of 18.6 – the tightest number in the comp across that window – while the Bulldogs are 2-3 in the same period conceding 24 a game and coming off a 38-20 loss to the Eels. Somehow the market has installed Canterbury as $1.61 road favourites. Our model has the Broncos winning by 8, a 10.5-point swing from the +2.5 the market has against them. At 64% confidence, this isn’t a coin flip.

BEST BET
Tip: BRONCOS H2H
Odds: $2.32
Confidence
7/10
Opportunity: Plus money on a team playing the best football in the competition right now. Broncos are defending at 18.6 conceded per game – nobody is tighter – and the Bulldogs just shipped 38 to the Eels. The one caveat is Brisbane’s weird split this year: 1-3 at Suncorp, 3-0 on the road. That’s hard to explain and has clearly informed the market price. But form over the last month trumps season-long oddities, and the Broncos at home at plus money is the bet of the round.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Sydney Roosters

Dragons sit bottom of the ladder at 0-7 with a -105 differential and still haven’t won a game this season. Last three results: 12-30 to Souths, 18-28 to Manly, 0-32 to the Cowboys. This is a side getting worse, not better. The Roosters are the opposite – three wins on the bounce, sitting fifth, and hung 38 on the Knights at Allianz last week. Our model has them winning by 20, the market has the line at 16.5. That’s a 3.5-point edge on a team in form against a team that has not looked like winning all year.

BEST BET
DRAGONS vs ROOSTERS • ALLIANZ STADIUM
Tip: ROOSTERS -16.5
Odds: $1.90
Confidence
7/10
Opportunity: Winless Dragons is a line bet, not a head-to-head. You’re not grabbing $1.18 on the Roosters – you’re taking the points on a 20-point projected margin. St George are shipping 28.4 a game and managing 12.8 at the other end; the Roosters are averaging 27 scored and 24 conceded over the last five. The one risk is a Roosters let-off day – when they lose, they lose big – but at home against an 0-7 side, this should be comfortable.

New Zealand Warriors vs Dolphins

Two sides separated by ten places on the ladder should not be averaging the same points per game over the past month – but the Warriors and Dolphins have both scored 28.4 a game across their last five. The defensive number actually tilts to the visitors at 18.2 conceded versus 21.6 for the hosts. But the Warriors are at home in Wellington and the model has them by one at 60% confidence. The market has them at -5.5, which is the whole basis of the tip: back the win, don’t touch the line.

BEST BET
WARRIORS vs DOLPHINS • HNRY STADIUM
Tip: WARRIORS H2H
Odds: $1.52
Confidence
6/10
VALUE BET
SIDECAR • LINE BETTING
Tip: DOLPHINS +5.5
Odds: $1.96
Confidence
6/10
Opportunity: The market has the Warriors by 5.5 but the model says 1 – a 4.5-point swing on a home favourite that suggests the short-price H2H is the safer play than the line. The Dolphins went down by a single point to Penrith a fortnight ago, so their +5.5 holds real value as a sidecar. Play the Warriors to win and the Dolphins to cover – the only scenario both lose is a Warriors blowout, which the numbers don’t support.

Melbourne Storm vs South Sydney Rabbitohs

The market still can’t let go of the Melbourne Storm brand. They’re favourites at home against a Rabbitohs side sitting fourth on the ladder with a +30 differential – if the names were anonymised, nobody would price this as a Storm favourite. Melbourne have lost five straight, including a 50-10 shellacking from the Panthers. Souths meanwhile have won three of five, rolled the Dragons 30-12 last round, and went within two of the Raiders the week before. Model has Souths by 5, market has Storm by 2.5 – a 7.5-point swing on the plus-money side.

BEST BET
Tip: RABBITOHS H2H
Odds: $2.27
Confidence
6/10
Opportunity: A top-four side at better than even money against a team on a five-game losing streak. Souths are outscoring Melbourne by 10 a game over the last month (27 to 17) and defending tighter (23 conceded vs 32). The only risk is the Storm-at-home factor – Munster and that forward pack know how to flip a switch, and if they do, $1.64 looks right. But the form is overwhelming. Back the better side at the better price.

Sunday, April 26

Newcastle Knights vs Penrith Panthers

Penrith are rolling. Top of the ladder, +135 differential, and the kind of form line that doesn’t produce close results. Knights are the opposite – back-to-back beltings from the Tigers and Roosters with a defence looking shot, shipping 42 and 38 in consecutive weeks. Our model has the margin at 20, the market has the line at 10.5. That 9.5-point gap is the whole basis of the tip. On a side putting 35 a game on most opponents, the cushion isn’t a stretch.

BEST BET
KNIGHTS vs PANTHERS • McDONALD JONES STADIUM
Tip: PANTHERS -10.5
Odds: $1.91
Confidence
7/10
Opportunity: Top of the ladder against a side leaking points. Panthers are scoring 35 a game and conceding 18 over the last five – Newcastle are the mirror image, scoring 23 and conceding 29. The one risk is the classic let-off game, where Penrith win comfortably but don’t cover, which is exactly why the line sits at 10.5 rather than 14. But this Knights defence has been torched in back-to-back weeks and Penrith have been relentless when switched on. Back the Panthers by two converted tries.

Manly Sea Eagles vs Parramatta Eels

Manly’s season is two different teams. On the road they are 3-0, banking 52 on the Dolphins, 28 on the Dragons, and 38 on the Cowboys in consecutive weeks. At 4 Pines Park, they are 0-3. The market has seen the win streak and priced them at -8.5 – the home record suggests that’s too short. Our model has the margin at 4 at 58% confidence. Back the win, not the line, and take the Eels +8.5 as the sidecar.

BEST BET
EAGLES vs EELS • 4 PINES PARK
Tip: EAGLES H2H
Odds: $1.38
Confidence
6/10
VALUE BET
SIDECAR • LINE BETTING
Tip: EELS +8.5
Odds: $1.90
Confidence
6/10
Opportunity: The two teams are separated by less than half a point per game over the past month (23 vs 24) but the market has Manly at -8.5. Eels got off the canvas last week with a 38-20 win over the Bulldogs – form enough to cover a 9-point line against a team with a 4 Pines hoodoo. The risk is the 52-10 drubbing Parra copped from the Titans two weeks ago; if that version turns up, the line blows out fast. But Manly have been brittle at home, and the points are the play on the sidecar.
