Dragons vs Sharks Prediction

Ben Harris
Updated 10 August 2026

The Dragons cannot put points on, and that is the whole bet. Fourteen and a half is short against a side with no way of scoring itself back into a game, and the late mail does not change a thing about it.

Odds correct at time of posting

The Sharks Have Won Five Straight, Two Of Them By More Than Thirty. Fourteen And A Half Points Does Not Cover The Gap Between These Two.

Cronulla have been winning ugly and winning big, and neither version of them suits the Dragons. I want the line rather than the head to head, and I want the total with it, because a game that is settled early goes quiet late.

The Dragons do not score enough to stay in touch

St George Illawarra have the quieter attack by a distance, and a side that cannot post points does not claw a deficit back once it opens up. It chases, it coughs it up, and the gap gets uglier.

That is why the big line and the low total sit together instead of fighting each other. Cronulla do not need a shootout here.

The late mail does not move it

The mail worth anything is Cronulla’s. KL Iro is out concussed and Siosifa Talakai has a bicep injury, so they are not at full strength, and Mawene Hiroti walks into the centres without the side blinking.

So no, it does not shift the line or the total for me. If anything it tells you where these two are at. One of them can lose players and keep winning by plenty.

The last time these two met here, the Dragons won

St George Illawarra beat Cronulla 22-14 at Jubilee in 2025, and this is a derby, so form is not the only thing in the room. That is the honest case against me.

What is different is what Cronulla have become since. Their last two wins came by thirty six and sixteen, and they did not need a fast game to get there either time. They took field position, sat on it, and let the other side run out of ideas.

Why forty nine and a half is the right number

Five of the last six meetings between these two finished under 49.5, and the one that did not was a Sharks blowout years ago. This fixture does not go near the mid fifties, so I am not paying for a lower number I do not need.

A one sided game is usually a quiet one on the scoreboard. The side getting beaten stops chasing, the side in front stops needing to, and the last twenty minutes go nowhere.

Dragons vs Sharks Tip

The Sharks cover fourteen and a half at Jubilee on Sunday afternoon, with the under alongside it.

That gap is the bet. An attack like that does not come from behind, it just lets the other mob get further away.
POINTS AGAINST

This is the bar that cuts against the under. St George Illawarra leak, but they have to be in the contest for that to hurt me.

Cronulla start their sets further up the park. That is field position for free, and it is how a favourite grinds a margin out instead of trading tries with you.

Ben’s Verdict

I’m on the Sharks and I want the line, not the head to head. The Dragons won the most recent meeting at this ground so a derby upset is never impossible, but nothing in the late mail has talked me off a fourteen and a half point gap.

Player Prop Predictions

Setu Tu to score a try, $2.30. Crossed last start and that makes it a try in three of his last six games. St George Illawarra are up against it at Jubilee, but Setu Tu is the one who keeps finding the line, and $2.30 pays for a bloke doing it every second week.

William Kennedy to score a try, $2.30. He crossed in two of the three games before his blank last start, a try in three of his last seven all up. If Cronulla cover fourteen and a half the tries get shared around, and $2.30 is a fair whack for one of them.

Nicho Hynes to score a try, $3.10. A blank last start does not put me off when there is a double sitting inside his last five and a try in two of those games. He is the longest price of the Cronulla tryscorers at $3.10 and the one worth chasing.

Ronaldo Mulitalo to score a try, $1.69. Over the line last start again, and that is a try in five of his last seven games with a double among them. Cronulla covering fourteen and a half suits him perfectly, and $1.69 is short because he keeps doing it.

Sione Katoa to score a try, $1.69. One blank does not wipe out the run before it: a hat trick and a double inside his last seven, with a try in five of those games. Back him at $1.69 to get back on the board at Jubilee.

St George Illawarra Dragons vs Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks FAQs

Who will win Dragons vs Sharks?

The Sharks, and comfortably. I make it around twenty eight points, which is why I want the line rather than the head to head.

What is the best bet in Dragons vs Sharks?

My headline multi at $6.13 rolls the line and total in with a player prop, Ronaldo Mulitalo Anytime Try. On its own, Sharks -14.5 at $1.91 is the anchor.

Does the late mail change the tip?

No. Cronulla are not at full strength with two out, Mawene Hiroti covers it, and I am still happy at fourteen and a half.

Can the Dragons cover at Jubilee Stadium?

They can, and they did the last time these two met here, winning 22-14 in 2025. That is the honest risk in a derby. But Cronulla are a different side now.

Why the under 49.5 and not a lower total?

Five of the last six meetings between these two finished under 49.5. This fixture does not get near the mid fifties, so there is no reason to pay for a shorter number.

Who is St George Illawarra Dragons playing next week?

The Dragons play the Wests Tigers - at CommBank Stadium on Sunday 16 August in NRL Round 24.

Who is Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks playing next week?

The Sharks play the Raiders - at Ocean Protect Stadium on Saturday 15 August in NRL Round 24.
