Cowboys vs Roosters Prediction

Ben Harris
Updated 30 July 2026

The Roosters roll into Townsville sitting second and in hot form. The Cowboys are reshuffled through the spine but they remain live at home, and this shapes as a genuine arm wrestle where the visitors win without ever pulling clear.

Odds correct at time of posting

The Roosters Are The Form Side, But Townsville Is No Place To Relax. The Cowboys Can Keep This One Close Enough To Matter.

The Roosters are the better team, and a reshaped Cowboys spine will do well to build a scoreboard against them. But the Cowboys are no easy out at home, and a good side rarely gets run off the park in front of its own crowd. Roosters win, Cowboys stay in it, and that is the bet.

The Roosters travel as the better team

The Roosters sit second for a reason. They scramble in defence as well as any side going around, and a Cowboys spine without Tom Dearden, with Soni Luke starting for the concussed Reed Mahoney, is a hard place to build a scoreboard. I’ve got the Roosters getting there.

Townsville is why the Cowboys cover

This is where I split from the bookies. They want you to lay nearly a converted try on a road favourite, and the Cowboys are hard to beat at home off a win over the Broncos last start. I make it a two point game, so the Cowboys with the points is the play.

The risk is a Roosters night out

The worry is obvious. The Roosters can bury a side when it all clicks, and the Cowboys could get overrun. But their last two wins came by eight and by one, so they’ve been grinding rather than steamrolling, and that is what keeps me on the Cowboys at +5.5.

Where the points come from

The over is the tightest of my calls, and it leans on the Cowboys’ end. They leak too many at the back, and the Roosters have the strike to make a leaky defence pay. On the season numbers, 45.5 sits just my way.

Cowboys vs Roosters Tip

The Roosters have the better side and win this, but Townsville and a reshaped Cowboys spine keep it close enough for the Cowboys to cover +5.5.

MISSED TACKLES

SYD27

This is the Roosters’ scramble defence, and it is why a patched Cowboys spine has to earn everything it gets in a game that comes down to one or two sets.

SYD5

The Cowboys hold the edge here, and even short a spine, at home that strike is how they manufacture the points to hang inside the 5.5.

Both attacks put up enough to drag this over the line, without either side needing a big night out.

Ben’s Verdict

The Roosters get there, that part I’m settled on. Where the bookies have overreached is the margin. The Cowboys are a tough out at home, and the Roosters have been winning tight rather than blowing sides away. So I’m on the Roosters to win with the Cowboys covering the +5.5. Click early and it could drift, but that hasn’t been the Roosters’ recent pattern.

Player Prop Predictions

Jeremiah Nanai to score a try, $3.75. He crossed in three of his last five and a reshaped Cowboys spine that keeps this tight gives him the ball in dangerous spots. At $3.75 for a bloke who’s shown he finds the line, I’m on.

Robert Toia to score a try, $2.95. Toia banged on three tries across four games before last week’s blank, and the Roosters have the better side to keep him busy in space. $2.95 is fair for a genuine chance to get back on the board.

North Queensland Cowboys vs Sydney Roosters FAQs

Who will win Cowboys vs Roosters?

I’m tipping the Roosters. They come into Townsville second on the ladder and defending as well as any side in the competition, and a reshaped Cowboys spine will do well to keep pace. I just don’t see them winning by a lot.

What is the best bet for Cowboys vs Roosters?

My best bet is the multi at $5.52: the head to head, Cowboys +5.5 and the over 45.5. That is the featured tip at the top of this page and matches the selections I send to the partner bookmakers.

Will Cowboys vs Roosters be a high scoring game?

I think it edges over, but only just. It is the closest of my three calls: the Cowboys leak enough at the back for the Roosters to punish, which is what gets me to the over 45.5. Recent scorelines have been mixed, so it is the leg I hold most lightly.

Who do the North Queensland Cowboys play next week?

The Cowboys travel to face the Titans on Thursday 6 August in NRL Round 23.

Who do the Sydney Roosters play next week?

The Roosters host the Bulldogs at Allianz Stadium on Friday 7 August in NRL Round 23.
