Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs Prediction

Ben Harris
Updated 17 August 2026

The Bulldogs won both meetings last year at Accor, the Rabbitohs took the most recent one on Good Friday, and the market has Canterbury favourites again. I am with them to win it, but three and a half points is more than I want to give away in a game this tight.

The Bulldogs Won Both Meetings With The Rabbitohs Last Year, But Souths Took The Most Recent One. Three And A Half Points Is Still More Than This Fixture Usually Needs.

Ninth against seventh, four rounds to go, and a finals spot on the line for Souths.

This is going to be a grind, and that shapes both my bets here.

Two of the last three meetings stayed low

These two have met three times running for 56, 42 and 32 points. The market wants forty three and a half. Two of those three landed under it, and while the Good Friday game blew past the number, this fixture more often turns into a wrestle, and that is what I am betting into.

The Bulldogs owned last year’s meetings, and that is the risk

The Bulldogs won both meetings last year, including a 32-0 at this ground. That is the honest case against taking the points with the Rabbitohs, and I am not pretending it away. What is different this time is that Souths took the most recent meeting 32-24 on Good Friday, they arrive seventh with a finals spot to protect, and they have beaten the Storm and the Eels inside their last five.

Souths are subtracting more than the Bulldogs

Campbell Graham returns on the wing for the Rabbitohs, but Souths have lost halfback Ashton Ward for the season with a hamstring injury and Jamie Humphreys to an ankle, with Jayden Sullivan steering the side. The Bulldogs make a single change, with Sitili Tupouniua out after another hamstring injury. Both sides are missing someone, so this is a nudge toward the home side rather than a reason. It moves how the margin sits, not how the total does.

A rivalry game plays tight, not loose

These two do not like each other and both of them are still playing for something in late August. Games carrying that much needle get ugly, not open. Ugly suits the points and it suits the under, and it does not suit a Bulldogs blowout.

Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs Tip

I have the Bulldogs winning tonight by a single point. That is why the bet is the Rabbitohs and the three and a half at $1.98, not the result.

Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs Key Stats

POINTS FOR
CBY20

SOU28

This is the bar that cuts against me. Souths are the better scoring side, and if they find that gear the line bet still gets there but the under is gone. If that is your read, back the points on their own.
POINTS AGAINST
CBY22

SOU24

Canterbury are the harder side to score against, which is why I have them winning a low one rather than winning big.
OFFLOADS

SOU8

Ball alive out of the tackle is how Canterbury manufacture points when there is no space, and it is the main reason I have the home side in front at the end of it.

Ben’s Verdict

One point is not three and a half. Take the Rabbitohs and the points at $1.98 and back the scoreboard to stay quiet. Odds as at this morning’s update, check them before you bet.

Player Prop Predictions

Stephen Crichton to score a try, $3.20. A double two starts back and a try in three of his last six, so the finishing is there. In a game I have going down to a single point, $3.20 about him crossing is plenty of price.

Jethro Rinakama to score a try, $2.07. He drew a blank last start but he had scored in three of the four before that, and it is a try in four of his last seven all up. Most reliable of the Canterbury tryscorers and the market knows it at $2.07.

Matt Burton to score a try, $3.05. Three tries from three separate games in his last seven, so he keeps turning up on the end of them. With Canterbury getting home by a whisker in my read, $3.05 is the value play of the three.

Campbell Graham to score a try, $2.40. A try last start and a double two games before that, which is three of his last four. South Sydney stay in this one right to the end on my read, and that is exactly why he anchors the multi at $2.40.

Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs vs South Sydney Rabbitohs FAQs

Who will win Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs?

The Bulldogs, but not by enough to hand over three and a half points. They sit ninth and the Rabbitohs seventh, and Canterbury won both meetings last year, though Souths took the most recent one 32-24 on Good Friday.

What is the best bet in Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs?

My headline multi at $7.12 takes the straight win with the total and a player prop, Campbell Graham Anytime Try. The win leg anchors it this week; the line bet on the card still stands as its own play.

Will Bulldogs vs Rabbitohs be a high scoring game?

I do not think so. The last three meetings between these clubs produced 56, 42 and 32 points, so two of the three landed under the line, and I have this one in the high thirties, which makes the under 43.5 at $1.89 the play.

How do the team lists change the tip?

Souths are subtracting more than Canterbury, which is a nudge toward the home side winning it. It is not a reason to walk off the points, and it does not shift where I have the total.

What happens to the bet if it rains?

Rain helps both of my bets. A wet one is fewer points, tighter football and a shorter winning margin, which is the points with the Rabbitohs and the under. It does not change the call, it just makes me happier about it.

Who is Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs playing next week?

The Bulldogs play the Dragons - at Allianz Stadium on Saturday 22 August in NRL Round 25.

Who is South Sydney Rabbitohs playing next week?

The Rabbitohs play the Warriors - at Accor Stadium on Saturday 22 August in NRL Round 25.
