Queensland vs New South Wales
The upcoming State of Origin game is set to be great, with Queensland and New South Wales vying for supremacy. The Maroons, fresh off an extraordinary upset in the series opener, are looking to secure the Origin shield with a game to spare. However, despite being the underdog, the Blues are not to be underestimated. They are determined to force a decider, even in the face of injuries and the introduction of two more debutants.
The series opener was a testament to the unpredictable nature of the game, with the lead changing hands multiple times. Despite the Blues dominating in terms of possession and territory, the Maroons managed to pull off a stunning victory, showcasing their relentless spirit and determination.
Betting Tip: QLD
Suggested Bet: Maroons WINNING MARGIN 1-12
New South Wales Blues
The Blues have been dealt a significant blow with injuries to their first-choice halfback and hooker. However, they have made strategic changes to their lineup, with Damien Cook stepping in as the No.9 replacement and Mitchell Moses recalled at halfback.
The Blues have a clear game plan:
- Start better.
- Build pressure.
- Sort out their edge defence.
- Take more of their scoring opportunities.
They need to get Mitchell and Tom Trbojevic into the game, while James Tedesco would best serve the Blues by not overplaying his hand as he did in Adelaide.
Despite the odds, the Blues have shown resilience in the past. They wrapped up the 2021 series at Suncorp Stadium with a 26-0 game two shutout. This demonstrates their ability to rise to the occasion and pull off a victory even in the face of adversity.
Queensland Maroons
The Maroons have had their fair share of challenges, with three of their game one heroes sidelined due to injuries. However, they have maintained a strong lineup, including Origin-experienced players like Xavier Coates, Jeremiah Nanai, and Moeaki Fotuaika.
In the first game, the Maroons’ forwards, led by man-of-the-match Reuben Cotter, put up a relentless effort. Daly Cherry-Evans kept his side cool through the rough spots, Cameron Munster came up trumps in the clutch, and Reece Walsh had a flawless debut at the back.
The Maroons have a strong track record at Suncorp Stadium, having won 38 Origins there to NSW’s 20 with one drawn. They have also won five of the last six matches staged at their fortress and 13 of the last 16. This gives them a psychological edge going into the game.
Final Thoughts
While the Maroons seem to have the upper hand, the Blues are not to be underestimated. However, given the Maroons’ track record at Suncorp Stadium and their performance in the series opener, they seem to have a slight edge. A realistic final score could be a close 24-18 victory for the Maroons.
