Fine day at Townsville and the track’s a Soft 5, so no excuses there. We went through the card and landed on four worth a look, and the interesting thing is they run across the price range. Avenue Montaigne is the short one at $3.70 in Race 2, and honestly that’s about right. The value we like sits further out, $6 for Swatow in Race 6 and $10 for Ruby Chicks in Race 7. Every one of ours settles back and runs on late, so if the tempo’s honest up front, that’s where the edge is.

The fav’s stuck out in gate 8 at $2.60 and has to do all the work in front. #2 Avenue Montaigne draws the inside, gets the blinkers on, and comes here off a win and a couple of placings in his last three. He settles off them, but over 1000m he knows how to finish off. At $3.70, I’m on him.

$4.40 for #9 She’s Speedy, and I’d rather have her than the $4.60 fav. She settles off them, but over 1000m she’s got the finish to run over the top late. Ear muffs stay on, Ryan Wiggins rides, and she’s been winning and placing through her recent starts. The fav has to come from even further back with the same worry. Take her each-way.

9. Swatow $6.00

Yeah, I’m on #9 Swatow. He’s back winning and placing, drops in at $6, and over 1400m he’s got the late kick to run over the top of a soft tempo. The fav at $3 has to make the same late run from a worse gate. Take him to win.

2. Ruby Chicks $10.00
Barrier 7 · Off Pace · No leader
Tongue tie goes on and #2 Ruby Chicks drops to $10 with no clear leader to chase. She’s won a couple this campaign and finishes hard, so from gate 7 she can run over the ones who race too keen early. Aidan Holt sticks. At $10 I don’t need much to go my way.
