Taree Horse Racing Tips Mon 31/8/26

Two we like at Taree and both of them come down to the price. Damascus Gate rolls forward from gate 8 in the Cup, and with no real pressure on him up front, $4 for a horse that can dictate his own race reads well to us. Soft 6 and fine overhead, so nothing tricky about the ground, which makes this a straight read on the map. Late in the day, City Gold Speed sits midfield in a 14, horse sprint with no obvious leader, and at $5 there’s enough in that for us to be keen. The other six races on the card we’re happy to watch.

Race 2
1:25pm · 1600m · Handicap · 9 runners

1. Damascus Gate $4.00

Barrier 8 · Leader · Soft pace

No genuine speed in this, and #1 Damascus Gate is the one who actually wants the front. Gate 8 is the knock, so Jordie Thompson has to push him across early, but if he gets there he dictates over 1600m with the blinkers on. He ran second two starts back and keeps turning up. #2 Bellevue at $3.20 then has to reel him in from midfield. I’m on Damascus Gate at $4.

Race 8
5:05pm · 1000m · Handicap · 14 runners

10. City Gold Speed $5.00

Barrier 6 · Midfield · No leader

#8 Yes Yes Boss is $4.40 first-up off a spell, and she still has to prove she’s ready. Not for me. #10 City Gold Speed has run third at his last two, has the blinkers on, and draws a fair gate 6 for the 1000m. $5, easy.
