All Star caught the eye early in race 7, three…

Metal Boss jumped out at me when I went through the card, and we’re happy to take the $8.50 on him in Race 2. He’s a backmarker out of gate 9 in a no-leader sprint, so he needs the race run to suit, but at that price the risk is worth it. The track’s a Soft 5 and racing fine overhead, so no dramas underfoot. Four we’re keen on across the meeting, and Metal Boss is the one we like most.
2. Hopeful Cause $6.00
Barrier 5 · Midfield · Soft pace
The blinkers going on is the hook. #2 Hopeful Cause has run into a place at his last two, Bailey Wheeler stays aboard, and from gate 5 he lands midfield with a soft tempo to close into. The favourite #1 Kojak settles even further back, so I’m not touching $2.20 on one with the same problem. At $6, Hopeful Cause is the one I want.
3. Metal Boss $8.50
Barrier 9 · Backmarker · No leader
$2.30 for #5 Sheza Boom off a let-up and drawn the widest of the lot? Not for me. #3 Metal Boss at $8.50 is where I’m at. No genuine leader means they’ll all be winding up late, and Cejay Graham has one that finishes off hard for Kelly Schweida. He ran on last time and gets his chance. Take Metal Boss to win.
14. The Sour $7.00
Barrier 1 · Off Pace · No leader
Rail draw and no genuine leader here, so #14 The Sour gets the trip and runs over the top of them late. The $2.15 favourite has the same off-pace worry from a worse gate, only at a quarter of the price. On him at $7.
10. Seismic Boom $4.00
Barrier 6 · Off Pace · No leader
I’m with #10 Seismic Boom here. No genuine leader means they’ll all be sprinting late, and he’s got the finish to pick them off from midfield. Tongue tie back on, Jag Guthmann-Chester aboard, and the danger Moroccan Wind has the same closing worry from the fence. $4, and I’ll take it.
