Soft 7 at the Sunshine Coast, and the sun’s out, so the ground should keep drying through the arvo rather than getting worse. That matters, because Race 1: field 11 runners and plenty of 17 and 18 runner races to sort through. On a track that size you want tempo to bring them undone, and a few of our races look like they’ll go hard early. Six we’re keen on across the card, nothing we’re calling a standout, just tips worth a look where the price and the run suit. Wanda Rox in the 5 and Gerringong in the 8 are the shorter ones we still rate.

#3 Livalittle won his last three before a let-up, and Tony Gollan knows how to have them cherry ripe fresh. He draws the rail, Leah Martyn takes the ride, and with no genuine leader he can slide into a soft spot from midfield. The favourite is $3.20 and has to work across from a wider gate. I’d rather take $8 on the horse getting the dream run. On him.

Plenty of speed on here, and that plays right into #3 She’s Exotic’s hands. She gets back off midfield and can swoop late once the leaders have cooked it up front, while the $2.50 favourite Balance The Books has to do the same job from gate 11 and further back again. Daniel Moor sticks for Matthew Dunn. At $7.50, give me the one getting the softer trip into it.

The favourite is the one I’m taking on here. #9 Jimmy’s Brother has to burn from the front at $4.80, and with this much speed on, leaders get swallowed late. #1 Foreign Press settles just off them for Cejay Graham, ear muffs on to keep the lid on, and he pounces when they stop. Take him at $7.

Plates off for the first time and #14 Wanda Rox is the one I want. There’s genuine speed up front, so she settles midfield off gate 4 and runs over the top of them late. $5, I’m with her.

$5.50 for #7 So You Are and I’m on. Real speed up front over the 2400m, blinkers going on, and he swoops off midfield once the leaders cook it. The fav Thebudgiesmugla has to do the same from the widest gate at $2.90. Easy.

Gate 2 against the carpark. #8 Gerringong gets the perfect midfield trip in a genuine-speed race while the favourite Band Of Brothers has to muster from barrier 17. Second then third since a let-up, and Dylan Gibbons only has to press the button once the leaders cook it. $3.70, happy to be on.
