Sunday country meeting at Seymour, and it’s a Heavy 9 out there even with fine weather overhead, so the ground is still testing. We only found two worth a look across the nine races, so this is a thin card for us. Staphani in Race 6 draws the fence over the mile at $4.80, and Our Justify heads to Race 9 at $2.05 as the short one late. Nothing we’re getting carried away with, just a couple where the price and the map line up on a wet track.

9. Staphani $4.80

Barrier 1 · Off Midfield · Genuine pace

Blinkers on for the first time and #9 Staphani drops in to gate 1. Won last start then got a freshen, so the profile’s fresh and clean, and Harry Coffey stays on. There’s genuine speed on here, which suits Staphani sitting just off midfield before letting down. I’d rather take $4.80 than the $4.60 on #1 One Long Day, who’s drawn out in gate 8 and hasn’t threatened in a while. Take Staphani to win.

Race 9
4:45pm · 1300m · Handicap · 10 runners

10. Our Justify $2.05

Barrier 4 · Pace · No leader

No genuine leader, and #10 Our Justify draws gate 4 to push up and control this one. Craig Newitt sticks, she’s been placed at both runs off a freshen, and the tongue tie stays on for the heavy ground. I’m happy to have her bossing it at $2.05. She makes the running or no one does.
