Soft 7 at Scone and four we keen on across the card, none we love enough to call a standout. Where it pays looks to be the bigger prices. We keep coming back to $6 on Don’t Say Do in the 5, and $8 for Listins Lass in the 7 reads like overs to us off their gates. The shorter ones, Pharoah Queen at $4.50 and Moana Gold at $4, are fair without being prices we want to pile into. So it is a card to play for value, not chalk. Take the overs where the map helps and leave the rest.

Race 3

12. Pharoah Queen $4.50

Barrier 4 · Midfield · No leader

$1.95 for #10 Jade Sunset is too short here. With no genuine leader, the fav has to come across from gate 3 and settles even deeper than most, so I’m not taking odds-on on a horse with that much to do. #12 Pharoah Queen gets the blinkers on, Reece Jones rides, she draws gate 4 and maps midfield, and she’s hit the frame in a couple of her recent runs. At $4.50, she’s the better gamble.

Race 4
2:45pm · 1700m · Hcp (Bm58) · 10 runners

11. Moana Gold $4.00

Barrier 4 · Off Pace · No leader

#11 Moana Gold won her last start and gets the blinkers and visors to help her finish off. There’s no genuine leader, but she’s the one who can swoop late. #10 Maples is $3.30 off a single win, and I’d sooner take $4 on the mare who’s actually winning races right now. Gate 4, Mollie Fitzgerald sticks. I’m with her.

Race 5
3:20pm · 1100m · Mdn Plate · 9 runners

8. Don’t Say Do $6.00

Barrier 6 · Off Pace · No leader

I’m on #8 Don’t Say Do at $6. He keeps running into the placings, two seconds his last two, and the blinkers going on with Reece Jones should be the bit that finally gets his head in front. There’s no clear leader, but he’s the one who finishes hardest, so he’ll be picking them off late while the others grind. Celestial Deal at $3 hasn’t shown me that yet.

Race 7
4:35pm · 1000m · Hcp (Bm66) · 9 runners

9. Listins Lass $8.00

Barrier 8 · Off Pace · No leader

Cross-over nose band on for the first time and the blinkers back, that’s the hook on #9 Listins Lass. With no genuine leader she’ll be running over the top of them late while they grind it out up front. Sobek’s a fair horse, but $1.95 is too short here and I’d sooner take $8 on the one finishing hardest. Gate 8 is the only worry.
