Country race day at Scone, eight on the card and a Soft 7 underfoot after the overcast morning. Three we like here, and none of them are up the front early. Live To Rise, Inception and Rockthevelio all settle off the speed, so we want the tempo to be honest and the leaders to come back to them. Rockthevelio is the short one at $3.80 in a big field of 20, while there’s a bit more money on offer with Live To Rise and Inception further out. No standout for us today, just three worth a look where the price and the run pattern line up.

Barrier 1 is the whole story. #4 Inception draws the fence, gets a soft run in behind the speed, and with no genuine leader he can pick his way into it and come home over the top of them late. Alysha Collett sticks. Arapawa at $3.70 has to do the work from out wider, and I’d sooner take $7 for one saving ground on the rail. Have it each-way.

Not taking $2.25 on #8 Avista here. #4 Rockthevelio comes back off a first-up win, draws the fence, and Alysha Collett can save all the ground and let him swoop late. The soft tempo won’t hurt him if he brings that fresh turn of foot. $3.80, I’m on.
