Sandown Horse Racing Tips Wed 8/7/26

We keep coming back to $6 on Bluestone in Race 3, a horse we’re happy to take on at that price with no clear leader in the race. Sandown is a Heavy 8 and it’s overcast, so it’s testing ground and the maps matter more than usual. A few of these are big fields too, with 15 runners and 3 (Race 8: field 11 runners, 8 scratched, so 3 going around). There’s no standout we want to hang our hat on today, just a card full of prices we think are worth a look. So we’re leaning to the ones getting overs against runners facing the same wet track, not chasing the short ones for the sake of it.

Race 1
12:25pm · 1200m · Mdn Plate · 10 runners

9. Diamond Eye $10.00

Barrier 3 · Off Midfield · Soft pace

Soft, settling off midfield from gate 3, on a heavy track.

Race 2
1:00pm · 2125m · Hcp (Bm74) · 8 runners

2. Harsh $3.20

Barrier 8 · Midfield · No leader

#2 Harsh has been finding the line at nearly every start lately, a win among the placings, and Craig Williams taking the ride is a booking I like. With no genuine leader here he can be pushed forward from midfield rather than getting stuck out the back, and 2125m on heavy ground suits a horse building into his races. At $3.20, I’m with him.

Race 3
1:35pm · 2125m · Hcp (Bm70) · 15 runners

2. Bluestone $6.00

Barrier 7 · Midfield · No leader

Blinkers go on #2 Bluestone, and that gear change on a horse who keeps chasing home second could be what turns those placings into a win. No genuine leader over 2125m, but he finds the line strongly enough to make his own luck from midfield. The favourite #16 Salt Spray is $5, and I’d sooner take $6 for a horse racing this honestly. Win the lot.

Race 4
2:10pm · 1500m · Hcp (Bm70) · 12 runners

4. Nearing Liberty $7.50

Barrier 7 · Midfield · Genuine pace

$5.50 is too short for #13 Trangoojahray when it has to close into genuine speed on a heavy track. #4 Nearing Liberty sits closer from midfield, gets first run on the swoopers before they wind up, and pays $7.50. I’m on him.

Race 5
2:45pm · 1400m · Hcp (Bm64) · 11 runners

12. Baltic Blizzard $6.50

Barrier 8 · Off Midfield · Soft pace

Soft, settling off midfield from gate 8, on a heavy track.

Race 6
3:20pm · 1200m · Hcp (Bm64) · 9 runners

7. Beautiful Bevy $8.00

Barrier 8 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

$1.55 for #5 Queen Peta off one run, and she has to do all the work in front on a Heavy 8. Not for me. There’s genuine speed engaged here, which sets it up for a swooper to come over the top of them late. #7 Beautiful Bevy won first-up last start for the Moody yard, settles back with Zac Spain, and gets the tempo to chase. $8, and I’m happy to take him.

Race 7
3:55pm · 1200m · Hcp (Bm74) · 13 runners

5. Extremely Hardys $5.50

Barrier 8 · Leader · Genuine pace

Craig Williams stays on #5 Extremely Hardys, the Equicast comes off for the first time, and he’s back fresh off a couple of recent wins. #1 Tennessee Bound is $1.85 and drawn to lead, but with genuine speed engaged he’ll have to work hard for it. That’s why I’m happy to take $5.50 on the horse Williams picked.

Race 8
4:30pm · 1200m · Hcp (Bm66) · 12 runners

3. Stay Humble $6.50

Barrier 6 · Midfield · Soft pace

#3 Stay Humble and the favourite #17 Mahershala map in the same spot, both midfield, both needing to make a run. So why take $3.20 on Mahershala when Stay Humble pays $6.50 for the same trip? He keeps finding the placings for Ciaron Maher, ran third last start, and Jabez Johnstone can time it from gate 6. I’m on Stay Humble.
