Caulfield Horse Racing Tips Sat 10/10/26
Caulfield runs a staying card, from 1100m out to 2400m,…

Markets have got a few of these short ones about right, but that doesn’t mean we’re following the crowd onto every favourite at Sale today. It’s a Heavy 9, overcast, and most of the card reads as a no-leader affair, so nobody’s handed an easy lead and the map gets messy. That’s where the crowd can overrate the obvious types. We went through all eight and we’re happy to take on some of the favourites where the price is wrong. Torvega at $7.50 in Race 6 is the sort of overs we keep coming back to, drawn 2 in a race that looks like it’ll be run along. Few we like across the day, none we love. Pick your spots, and don’t just back short because everyone else is.
9. Contarini $5.50
Barrier 1 · Midfield · No leader
Ear muffs and a lugging bit go on for the first time, and #9 Contarini draws the rail with Jye McNeil up for Waller. He ran a nice third at his only go, and from gate 1 in a race with no clear leader he should land closer than most. #2 Cybersecurity sits back off the speed from a worse draw, and I won’t take $2.60 on that. Give me Contarini at $5.50.
6. Master Taj $3.10
Barrier 2 · Midfield · No leader
Yeah, I’m on #6 Master Taj here. He keeps hitting the line, two seconds and a third his last three, so he’s well and truly knocking on the door. He draws the inside at gate 2 with Joe Bowditch staying put, and on a heavy 9 that low draw counts for plenty. #7 Sauvitude is the same $3 but has to cross from gate 8. At $3.10, I’ll take the better run.
3. French Gift $4.60
Barrier 2 · Pace · No leader
No genuine leader here, so #3 French Gift can bowl along in front from gate 2, and the tongue tie goes on for the first time. That’s the map I want. Odds-on Jimmy Beans has to chase him down from midfield, and $1.40 on that is no thanks. French Gift at $4.60, I’m on.
1. Angel’s Gathering $4.20
Barrier 8 · Backmarker · Genuine pace
The favourite has to lead and do all the work from gate 10, and I won’t be taking $3.20 on #5 No Doubt Coral for that. There’s genuine speed on, which is just what a backmarker wants, so #1 Angel’s Gathering can settle back from gate 8 and swoop late with the blinkers going on for the Hayes yard. He keeps finding the line, a second and a few thirds lately. At $4.20, I’m swooping each-way.
11. Infinite Jest $4.50
Barrier 4 · Off Pace · No leader
#11 Infinite Jest won last start after a couple of seconds, so he’s peaking at the right time. He can run over the top of them late, and $4.50 beats the $3.40 on #6 Garnacho. Easy.
12. Torvega $7.50
Barrier 2 · Pace · Hot pace
Hot speed up front, and #12 Torvega gets to swoop off the low draw while the fav Starburst has to cross from gate 11 to lead. On a heavy 9 that’s a lot of hard work for a leader, and Torvega just sits off the tempo and lets it happen. $7.50 plays the $4, and I know which one I want.
5. Too Tough $3.30
Barrier 2 · Off Midfield · Genuine pace
Genuine pace projected, settling off midfield from gate 2, on a heavy track.
5. Centu Cavaddi $3.60
Barrier 6 · Midfield · Soft pace
$3.60 for #5 Centu Cavaddi is a price I’m happy to take. The blinkers go on, Jett Stanley rides for Busuttin and Young, and from gate 6 he can settle midfield and pick his spot. The fav has to find a way off the fence from off the pace. On him.
