Launceston Horse Racing Tips Fri 16/10/26
Soft 5 at Launceston with the rail out 6m the…

Cup day at Rosehill and the good staying races are where we want to be. We keep coming back to Hovland in Race 7, $7.50 from gate 4 over 1800m in a 20-horse field, and that’s the one we love. The track’s a Soft 6 with cloud about, so it’s not a bog, but they’ll feel it late. That suits horses that can settle midfield and run home, which is exactly what Hovland does. Five we like across the card, one we really like. The rest can wait.
1. Mafia $7.00
Barrier 3 · Leader · Genuine pace
From gate 3 with the blinkers on, #1 Mafia can bowl along and dictate. I like a confident leader at $7, especially one coming off a win and a second in his last two, with Siena Grima happy to find the front. The favourite She Swings has to come from midfield and round them up at $4.40. Give me the one making his own luck up top. Each-way at $7.
7. Jarrito $6.00
Barrier 5 · Off Pace · Genuine pace
Genuine speed up front is exactly what #7 Jarrito wants. He settles off them and gets the tempo to run over the top late. Won his last start, Alysha Collett stays on for Bjorn Baker, and gate 5 gives him a clean run. #9 Gorgeous sits closer at $3.30 but has to hold off the swoopers. At $6, I’m with the horse the pace sets up for.
9. Hovland $7.50
Barrier 4 · Midfield · Soft pace
$7.50 on a horse that just won is overs to me. #9 Hovland settles midfield from gate 4, but he comes home strong and this no-speed race lets him pick them off late. He’s peaking too, a win off a second and a third before it. The favourite Congressman has to do all the work in front at $4.40. Take Hovland.
2. Know Thyself $6.00
Barrier 5 · Off Pace · Soft pace
The favourite’s too short. #4 God’s Window is $2.50 and settles off the speed, same as Know Thyself, so I won’t take that price on a horse with the same problem. #2 Know Thyself gets the glue-on shoes for the first time, Schiller stays on, and he’s drawn 5 with three wins on the bounce earlier this prep. $6, on him.
16. Stagnum $8.00
Barrier 10 · Backmarker · No leader
Where’s the value in race 9? #16 Stagnum at $8. He comes off a win and finishes over the top late, which is what you want with no genuine leader up front. The favourite Sanctified settles even further back at $3.40, so I’m not taking that price on a horse with the same problem. I’m on Stagnum.
