Soft 7 at Quirindi with the sun out, so the ground should keep improving as the day goes on rather than get worse. That drying track is why we’ve held back to just two on a seven-race card, both later in the day once we’ve seen how it’s playing. Zoucratic in the 6 is the one we keep coming back to, an off-pace type from gate 4 at $5 if the tempo’s genuine. Brighella backs it up in the last, drawn 6 and worth a look at $5.50 over the short trip. Thin card for us, but those two are where we reckon the value sits.

There’s genuine speed on up front here, which is exactly what a horse like #4 Zoucratic wants. He settles off them from gate 4, comes off a win last start, and gets Ben Looker to pick his moment late. The favourite has to do the work in front at $2.90 in a race run this hard. At $5, I’m happy to be the one coming over the top.

Where’s the value in the last? The favourite and #6 Brighella both settle back off the speed, so if this is run at a soft tempo they’re both handing the leaders a start. Same $5.50 either way, but Brighella keeps hitting the line and knows how to finish off, and he does it from a fair gate. Happy to take him to win.
