Quiet little card at Port Augusta today, and we’ve only landed on two we’re keen on. Track’s a Good and the weather’s fine, so no dramas in the ground, it just comes down to who’s the right price. Overloaded draws the fence in the 6 and looks the right sort around $3.10. Shikanic is the other one in the 7, dropping back to the 1100m. The rest of the seven can wait.

4. Overloaded $3.10

Barrier 1 · Midfield · Soft pace

#4 Overloaded drops straight onto the fence from gate 1, blinkers on, and comes here off a second last time out. In a soft-run race that draw is gold: he lands close and gets the drop on them without doing the donkey work. Unisphere is the one to beat but sits a few gates wider in 6 and has to find cover. I’m happy to take Overloaded at $3.10 to win.

Race 7
4:55pm · 1100m · Handicap · 9 runners

1. Shikanic $2.60

Barrier 6 · Midfield · Soft pace

Blinkers back on and Campbell Rawiller keeps the ride; that is the change I want on #1 Shikanic. He won first-up after the spell and settles midfield where he can get a soft run into it. Short at $2.60, sure, but I am happy to be with him.
