Soft 5 at Northam and the market’s leaning on the short ones a bit hard for my money. We’re only keen on three across the eight races, and where it pays here is looking past the favourites. Hellbent For Glory is into $3 in the second and everyone’s happy to take it, but I’d rather the $7 on Miss Santa Corrs later in the day, drawn 3 in a big field of 14. Big Man Zor in the opener is the other one worth a look. Quiet card, but a couple of prices the punters have got wrong.

The blinkers come off first time for Stephanie Bakranich, Troy Turner stays on, and at $4.40 I’d rather take him than the odds-on favourite. On him.

With genuine speed on, he settles midfield and gets the soft run, while #7 Penny Pincher has to cross from a wide gate to find the front. I’d rather have the $3 on the one drawn to get the trip than $2.60 on the fav doing all the work. Have it.
