Blinkers on for the first time and the bubble cheeker comes off too, and over a flying 800m that gear can wake him right up. #4 Harry ran fourth then third a couple back, gets Shannen Llewellyn, and from midfield he’s never far off them over the short course, so the no-leader query doesn’t bother me. At $5.50 he gives me a better gamble than the $2.60 favourite I’m not touching from gate 4. I’m on Harry.

He’s placed a couple of times lately, and with no genuine leader he can creep into it from midfield. On a heavy 10 the favourite is $2.30 with nothing on the board I trust, so I’d rather take $4.50 on Harry with the new gear. Gate 8 is the worry, but at that price I’m happy to be on.

Plenty of overs here. #10 Thirty Degrees at $4.80 ran on for third last start coming back from a spell, and with no leader he can swoop late off the back. The winkers stay on and Llewellyn sticks. #4 Balladoran is $2.60 from the rail, but I’d rather take the bigger price on the one that finishes over the top of them. On the heavy, $4.80 on Thirty Degrees for me.

10. Thirty Degrees $3.60

#10 Thirty Degrees ran third first-up off the spell, so he’s second-up now and should be sharper. No genuine leader is the query, but he’s got the late kick to pick them off from off the pace. At $3.60 he’s a fraction over the fav, and on heavy ground I’m happy to be with him.

11. Fined For Speeding $3.50

The favourite is short enough at $2.70 when #10 Exorbitant Miss settles five lengths back in a race with no genuine speed. #11 Fined For Speeding lands closer from gate 2, gets the winkers on for the first time, and has been knocking on the door with a swag of placings. Olivia Dalton sticks. At $3.50 I’d rather have the one drawn to get the better run on the heavy. On her.

The favourite’s no good to me at $2.70 from midfield. #11 Fined For Speeding gets the winkers on first time, drops into gate 2, and with no genuine leader he can save ground and unleash a late kick. At $3.50, I’m with him.

Same $3.40 as the favourite, so I’ll take the one finishing hardest. #12 Extreme Merger keeps hitting the line, a couple of seconds in recent runs, and he comes home strong enough that the soft tempo doesn’t worry me. Gabrielle Johnston sticks, and I’m happy to be with him at the price.

Where’s the value in the last? $4.80 on #12 Extreme Merger. He won two back, gets the soft tempo to swoop late, and the $3.20 fav settles even further back. No thanks to taking the short one with the same problem. I’m on.

Happy to take #8 City Gold Speed at $5. The blinkers go on for the first time and that can sharpen him into a late kick on this soft tempo. #11 Midnight Rabble is the $4 favourite, but he settles back off the pace as well, so I’m not chasing the shorter one. I’ll take the bigger price.

#1 Rothgate at $4.40 is the one for me. Gate 3 gives him the rail, while the $4.60 fav, #8 City Gold Speed, has to work over from gate 8. He ran third last start and can run over the top of them late. On the inside, I’m on.

$9.50 for #11 Battle Reign in the last is too good to leave alone. He settles closer than most backmarkers and comes home hard, so a no-leader tempo lets him swoop late on a heavy 10. The fav #7 Hanuman wants the front but has to burn across from gate 12 to find it. Take the big price on the one finishing over them.

10. Erion $9.00

#10 Erion can lead this. Gate 1, early speed, and no one else looks keen to go forward. He won last start, and the $3.70 fav #7 Hanuman has to cross from gate 12 in the wet. At $9, I’m on each-way.
