Only six races at Mackay and we’ve come away with two, so it’s a thin card and we’re not pretending otherwise. Track’s a Good 4 with fine weather overhead, so nothing dramatic underfoot, and the market has been free enough with the short ones. That’s where we part ways. Our Missile is into $3.00 in the last, and from gate 9 with the pace looking soft, he’ll have to work his way into it rather than get handed anything. Dwayne in the second is the one worth a look. Seven runners, he leads from gate 6 in a genuinely run race, and $4.80 reads long for a horse who gets to dictate.

Blinkers and tongue tie stay on, Gabrielle Semmens can push forward from gate 6, and he ran second last start. #3 Intrepid Lad settles back at $2 and has to come and get him late. There’s genuine speed on so it won’t be an armchair ride out in front, but I’m on Dwayne at $4.80.
