Lachie Manzelmann is the name to watch at Mackay, with a couple of his getting backed across the card. Journalism has caught the eye in race 2, in from $6.50 to $5.50 with two wins already this prep over the 1560m, and his Fillydelphia Miss in race 3 has been well supported too, firming $34 into $23. It’s a Soft 5 that should improve through the day with dry skies overhead, and the card has real range, 1100m through to 1560m across small fields where the form’s well exposed. Real Key is another that’s come right in for race 4, $67 into $27, and Aye Vee Aitch won last start and heads into the Cup in race 5 as a short one worth another look. Selections drop here around 10am race morning once the markets firm.
