Eight races at Lismore and only two we’re keen on, so it’s a quiet one from us. Soft 5 and overcast, nothing too testing, so the track isn’t doing the picking here. The prices are. Race 3 is the one where nobody wants to lead, and that lets Spicy Wings sit handy from gate 6 instead of hoping the field comes back. Race 8 is the opposite, genuine speed on, and we’d rather be the one coming home at $5 for Dance Gavin Dance than backing the short one to hang on.

He won first up, then was flat when ninth last start, and from gate 6 Andrew Mallyon can have him handy instead of hoping something comes back to him. #4 Chief Of Staff at $4.50 gets back and has to do it all from gate 9, which is a lot to ask with no tempo. $3.90 is good enough for me.
