Seven races at Kilmore and we are only keen on three of them, all late on the card. It is a Good 4 under fine skies, so the ground should hold together, and the shape of each race matters more than the track today. Two of the three come from off the pace in races where nobody looks keen to lead, so they need an honest tempo and a bit of luck, and that is the risk we are taking on. Makusha in Race 6 is the one we like most. He has drawn out wide in gate 11 over 2000 metres and a light tempo up front will not help him, but he is the best stayer in the race and $5.50 for him reads a fair price to us.

Five seconds from his last six, so #3 King Incanto is overdue. Blinkers off, visors on for the first time, Andrew Dale is trying something to get him over the line late. No leader is the worry for a horse who gets back, but #2 Frozen Tide settles even further back with one placing this prep, so I’m not paying $3.10 for the same problem and worse form. I like King Incanto at $3.60, and I want him to win.

Give me #13 Makusha at $5.50, and it’s to win. #7 Dusty’s Deel gets a soft lead from gate 2, but he’s run third at both starts back from a spell, and $3.90 for a horse that keeps finding a couple better is no thanks. Gate 11 is the knock, but over 2000m Teo Nugent has time to find cover, and Makusha’s the one finishing hardest up the straight. Have him.

Five bucks for #2 True Prophet is the price I like. He’s hit the frame in six of seven this prep, and he sits closer than #1 Bring The Thunder when nothing wants to lead. Gate 10 is the worry. Live with it at $5.
