Hawkesbury Horse Racing Tips Tue 23/6/26

Soft 5 at Hawkesbury and the weather’s fine overhead, so the track should hold up well through the day. That takes a lot of the wet-track guesswork out of it, and we can just back the better horses on their merits. We’ve got four we’re keen on across the back half of the card, and the one we love is Whoa Nellie in Race 8 at $3.30, even from a wide gate in a field of 10. Bigger fields make luck matter, so we’re sticking to runners that can find their own way into the race.

Race 5
2:35pm · 1500m · Hcp (Bm64) · 10 runners

9. Prefer Diamonds $9.50

Barrier 5 · Off Pace · No leader

$2.20 for #3 Pentagon is too short for me here. With no genuine leader, this is a race that can fall apart late, and #9 Prefer Diamonds is the one I want coming over the top of them. He won two on the bounce earlier in the prep, gets the tongue tie back on, and Dylan Gibbons takes the ride from gate 5. At $9.50 he only needs that late kick to land it each-way.

6. Iron Fury $5.00

Barrier 2 · Off Pace · Hot pace

Ear muffs on for the first time, and that might be the small tweak #6 Iron Fury needs. There’s genuine speed in this race, so from gate 2 he can settle off them and get dragged into it late. He’s been knocking on the door for a while now, a stack of seconds and fourths without quite saluting, and Tim Clark stays put. #5 Escargoes at $2.30 has to do it from a worse gate. I’m happy taking the $5.

Race 7
3:50pm · 1800m · Plate (C1) · 12 runners

11. Wounder $4.20

Barrier 3 · Midfield · Soft pace

Not for me on the fav. #1 Abandonment settles even further back and draws worse, yet you take no extra price for it. #11 Wounder maps closer from gate 3, has the blinkers on, and keeps finding the line lately for Waller. $4.20, I’m on him.

7. Whoa Nellie $3.30

Barrier 7 · Midfield · Soft pace

#7 Whoa Nellie is the one I want here. Tyler Schiller stays on for Brad Widdup, and he’s back off two wins on the bounce before a flat run last time. The pace looks soft, but the favourite, #13 Call Me Sassy, settles even further back, so I’m not taking $2.50 on a horse with the same problem. From gate 7 at $3.30, Whoa Nellie gets the better run. Take him.
