Grafton Horse Racing Tips Thu 16/7/26

Fine overhead at Grafton and the track’s rated a Good 4, so we’re on top of the ground for once. It’s Cup day too, with the Westlawn Grafton Cup the feature. Only a couple here we’re keen on. Encoder is the one in the Cup at $9 from gate 4, and there’s a 14-horse field to work through in that race. 10 runners. Nothing we’re going overboard on, just two worth a look where the price makes sense.

Race 7
4:05pm · 2350m · Cup (L) · 11 runners

1. Encoder $9.00

Barrier 4 · Midfield · Genuine pace

The favourite’s the one I want to take on here. #1 Encoder gets gate 4 and settles midfield, while King Pedro has to work across from gate 9 to find cover at just $2.10. Encoder won a couple back and was second last start, so he’s holding form, and the blinkers stay on for Boris Thornton. Over 2350m with genuine speed on, I’ll take the $9 and let the short one do the hard yards.

Race 8
4:40pm · 1000m · Kirby Qlty · 10 runners

3. Emperor $4.40

Barrier 3 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

Genuine speed up front, and #3 Emperor is the one who’ll benefit. He settles back from gate 3 and gets a hot tempo to run at, off a couple of wins earlier this prep. At $4.40 I’m happy to let him charge home late while the $3 favourite has to find cover closer from a wider gate.
