He Is The Kiss jumped off the page when we went through the Gold Coast card, and $5.50 on him in Race 5 looks the pick of the day. He draws the inside gate in a race with no obvious leader, so he can sit off the speed and get his own way in front. Synthetic and fine overhead means no excuses either way. Three more we’re keen on across the card, and Count Nicholas in the 2 is the short one we’ll still take.

1. Count Nicholas $2.90

Barrier 2 · Off Pace · Soft pace

Soft speed in a seven-horse field is the query with #1 Count Nicholas, because he does like to get back. What gets me past it is gate 2 on the synthetic, so Mckenzie Apel can save ground the whole way and only has a handful to run down. He keeps finding the line too, seven placings from his last ten. Power Reece has the same job to do from a wider gate. $2.90, I’m on him.

2. He Is The Kiss $5.50

Barrier 1 · Off Midfield · No leader

I’m taking #2 He Is The Kiss at $5.50. Gate 1 on the synthetic lets Matthew Chadwick save ground the whole way, and with no genuine leader up front he’ll be sitting closer to the speed than the favourite is. Monte Carlo Miss is $3.90 from gate 9 and further back again. Have him.

Race 6
3:34pm · 1150m · Handicap · 9 runners

2. Spirit Of Brodie $4.50

Barrier 1 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

Blinkers stay on and #2 Spirit Of Brodie has the fence, so he can save ground and get a tow off the genuine speed. Three wins from his last six too. Not interested in $2.60 for #10 Cat Call to do all the work in front. $4.50 does me.

Race 7
4:44pm · 1050m · Handicap · 10 runners

1. I Am Voodoo $4.80

Barrier 9 · Midfield · Genuine pace

Where’s the value in race 7? #1 I Am Voodoo at $4.80. #8 Mongolian Spring sits in the same spot in the run from a better gate, and at $3.60 that shorter quote isn’t buying you much. Gate 9 means Kayla Johnston has work to do early, but with genuine speed on over 1050m there’s plenty in front of him to run at. Happy to wear the wide gate at $4.80.
