Dubbo Horse Racing Tips Fri 5/6/26

5 June 2026

Overcast at Dubbo and the track’s come up Heavy 9, so it’ll be a slog from race 1. Big fields too, a couple of races pushing 17 to 20 starters, which makes the gates matter more than usual. Head Kahuna in the opener is the one we want them to win. Plenty to work through, eight races we’re keen on.

2. Head Kahuna $3.50

Barrier 3 · Off Pace · Soft pace

The favourite is $2.05 in a 1000m dash on a Heavy 9 with twelve runners, that’s short enough for me. #2 Head Kahuna gets the blinkers on for the first time, draws gate 3, and has been knocking on the door with a second last start and a couple of thirds before that. Mitchell Bell rides for Cavanough. The pace looks soft, so from the inside he can sit just off them and pounce late. At $3.50, on him.

Race 2
1100m · 2yo Hcp · 7 runners

3. Hulaland $4.40

Barrier 7 · Backmarker · Soft pace

#3 Hulaland at $4.40 won two starts back. The fav has had one start in his life and they want $2.45 about him. No thanks. Hulaland settles back from gate 7, but he comes home strong on heavy ground. Take him.

Race 3
1300m · Mdn Plate · 12 runners

5. Northern Exposure $7.00

Barrier 9 · Pace · No leader

Nobody wants to lead in this. #5 Northern Exposure has the speed to roll across from gate 9 and dictate. They want $2.80 about Italus, I’d rather have $7 about the horse who can grab the front.

Race 5
1100m · Hcp (C1) · 10 runners

3. Souls Companion $8.50

Barrier 3 · Off Pace · Hot pace

Blinkers off and nose roll on, first time both. #3 Souls Companion gets gate 3, hot tempo on for the closer to run home into. $8.50 about a horse first-up off the freshen. Easy.

Race 6
1000m · Hcp (Bm82) · 7 runners

10. Gail Jeanette $3.90

Barrier 4 · Leader · Hot pace

Why take $2.25 about #2 Iowna Benz when #10 Gail Jeanette is $3.90 and they’re both going for the same lead? Hot pace from gates 1 and 4, two leaders, somebody’s getting cooked. I’d rather find out at the bigger price. Tongue tie on first time and she won two in her last prep. Take Gail Jeanette.

Race 7
1300m · Hcp (Bm58) · 13 runners

2. Tiye $6.50

Barrier 6 · Off Midfield · Soft pace

Same map, better gate, bigger price. #2 Tiye at $6.50 sits midfield like the fav but draws inside her. The fav has the same problem at $5.50, plus comes off a beaten run after a let-up. I’m with Tiye.

Race 8
1300m · Hcp (Bm58) · 14 runners

6. Iknowyou $5.50

Barrier 2 · Midfield · No leader

I’m on #6 Iknowyou at $5.50. He draws gate 2 with Mitchell Bell staying on for Cavanough, and last start was a second after building through this prep. No genuine leader in here, so from the rail he can save ground from midfield and finish over the top of them. The fav at $6.50 has no map edge.

Race 9
1400m · Hcp (Bm82) · 10 runners

3. New Pharoah $4.50

Barrier 1 · Off Pace · No leader

#3 New Pharoah comes here off a win and gets the rail with Bell sticking for Cavanough. He settles a touch back, but in a no-leader race from gate 1 he saves all the ground. The fav is $2.70 from gate 9 as a backmarker with no win this prep, same problem at a shorter price. At $4.50 on a Heavy 9, I’m taking the horse that just won.
