1. Iconify $3.80

Barrier 4 · Backmarker · No leader

Iconify ran third first up off a spell, draws gate 4, and Ben Thompson sticks. No genuine speed signed on, so he will need to come home over the top of them, but he has the late kick to do it. The favourite is $2.50, and that is short enough in a seven-horse field with no clear leader. At $3.80, I’m on Iconify.

11. Addition $5.50

Barrier 2 · Midfield · No leader

Knock the fav. Easy Love at $3.20 settles midfield in a no-leader race, and so does Addition. Same problem, worse price. Addition has the rail off gate 2, Dolan stays on for Gollan, and at $5.50 he’s the better gamble.

3. First Mission $5.50

Barrier 5 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

First Mission is $5.50 and that’s where I want to be. He maps to settle off the speed from gate 5, and with a genuine tempo on, he gets the run of the race coming home. The favourite has to do the work in front from a wider gate at $3.40, and I’d rather take the price about the one finishing over the top of them. I’m with First Mission.

16. Esprit Du Jour $4.60

Barrier 7 · Off Pace · No leader

The favourite at $4.40 settles back in the run like Esprit Du Jour, and you pay less for the same shape. No thanks. Esprit won two back, ran third last start, and Thompson stays on for Gollan from gate 7. $4.60, easy.
