Quiet midweek card at Doomben and we are only keen on two of the seven, both late in the day. Good 4 and fine overhead, so nobody gets to blame the ground. That makes it a straight read on form and price. The blinkers go on Lockyer in race 6 and he has won two of his last three, which is more than the runner alongside him in the market can say, so $3.20 for Lockyer does the job for us. Cardonette in the last just needs to travel midfield and let the speed in front of her cook itself. Two worth a look, and we are happy to leave the other five alone.

Tony Gollan sends him out with Emily Pozman aboard from gate 6. #1 Zouper Fund is $3.50 and keeps finding placings without actually winning one this preparation, so for much the same money I’d rather have the one whose head keeps hitting the line first. $3.20 for Lockyer.

Hot speed up front, and #12 Savage Sequel has to work hard from the inside just to hold the lead. That suits #7 Cardonette, who won first-up off a let-up and only needs to travel midfield and pick up the pieces late. $3.20 for her is good enough for me.
