Doomben Horse Racing Tips Wed 10/6/26

Doomben meeting abandoned.

Captain Maverick in Race 5 is the one we keep coming back to at $3.80, but the bigger read at Doomben today is the lack of leaders. Heavy 8 with showers around, and nearly every race has no one wanting to roll forward. The market keeps backing the closers on a wet track, while the horse that grabs the front gets an uncontested lead and a kick home. Plenty going on across the eight, and we’re keen on the ones that can find the front.

Race 1
1650m · Mdn Plate · 6 runners

10. Tassorati $4.00

Barrier 3 · Pace · No leader

$2.20 for the favourite is short on a horse that keeps finding seconds without putting one away. #10 Tassorati can lead them up from gate 3 in a race with no genuine leader, ear muffs on, and Tony Gollan and Ben Thompson go well together. At $4, I’d rather be on the one that can dictate than the one always running into a placing.

Race 2
1200m · Mdn Plate · 7 runners

2. La Profecia $7.00

Barrier 4 · Pace · No leader

I’m on #2 La Profecia at $7. Second up off the freshen, with a third and a fourth before the spell, drawn 4. The fav is $2.50 first up with one placing in four.

Race 3
1200m · Class 1 Hcp · 7 runners

7. Immediate $6.50

Barrier 6 · Midfield · No leader

Easy. Blinkers go on for #7 Immediate in a no-leader race on a Heavy 8, gate 6, and he keeps knocking on the door without saluting. I’ll take $6.50, no thanks to $1.85 for #2 Siesta.

Race 4
1200m · Class 1 Hcp · 9 runners

4. Adranos $7.00

Barrier 6 · Midfield · Soft pace

Tony Gollan strips them ready and Ryan Maloney rides #4 Adranos. He keeps finding the placings, and blinkers come off here in a no-speed race. He maps midfield, while #7 Moshulu Spirit at $1.80 has to come from further back, and from gate 6 Adranos sits in the better spot. $7. Have him.

Race 5Best Bet
2060m · (Bm70) Hcp · 10 runners

3. Captain Maverick $3.80

Barrier 2 · Midfield · No leader

Why take $2.50 on #6 All Kinds Of Folk from gate 7 in a no-leader race? #3 Captain Maverick gets gate 2 on the rail, Maloney rides for Waller, and the same midfield job from a softer draw is the call. He’s run three placings and a sixth from his last four, and over 2060m on a Heavy 8 the inside counts. Give me Captain Maverick at $3.80.

Race 6
1650m · Class 2 Hcp · 10 runners

6. Stranglehold $6.50

Barrier 1 · Backmarker · No leader

Gate 1 in a no-leader race is where I want to be. #6 Stranglehold gets the rail with Ryan Maloney on, and he’s won a race in this prep with a third in there too. The fav #11 Bonus Season takes $3.90 from gate 10 trying to do the same thing from worse ground. $6.50, sticking with the better draw.

Race 7
1110m · (Bm78) Hcp · 7 runners

12. Speedy One $8.50

Barrier 2 · Pace · No leader

Won his last and back third-up. #12 Speedy One gets gate 2 in a no-leader race while the fav has to cross from gate 5 at $1.70. $8.50, on him.

Race 8
1350m · (Bm78) Hcp · 8 runners

12. Winsome Star $4.60

Barrier 5 · Off Midfield · No leader

The fav is the risk here, first up off the spell at $3.90 in a no-leader race. #12 Winsome Star at $4.60 from gate 5 has been running into fourths without quite saluting, Jaden Lloyd rides. The fav settles midfield himself, so we’re paying short for the same map on a horse with no run. Take Winsome Star at the better price.
