Caulfield Horse Racing Tips Sat 10/10/26
Caulfield runs a staying card, from 1100m out to 2400m,…

Who wants to lead at Cranbourne today? Half the card reads no-leader, so the speed map is the whole story on this Heavy 8. That suits Obon in Race 1, drawn 3 and happy to sit off the pace at $3.10. With nobody keen to roll forward, the off-pace types get to creep into it. A few we like further down, and the prices get longer as the card goes on. We’re chasing horses that either control the tempo or get the soft run, because on this heavy ground the ones doing extra work won’t be there at the finish.
3. Obon $3.10
Barrier 3 · Off Pace · No leader
#3 Obon keeps knocking on the door, second, second, then a couple of thirds, and now Luke Nolen takes over with the blinkers back on. The no-leader shape doesn’t scare me, because the favourite has the same problem from further back at $2.30, and Obon finishes off his races. Gate 3 on a Heavy 8 gets him a softer run closer than Expanding Power. At $3.10, he’s the one. Take him.
10. Levrier $6.50
Barrier 2 · Backmarker · Soft pace
The favourite’s no good to me at $1.85. #2 Blue Shield keeps placing without saluting, and now he has to lead and hold the closers out on a Heavy 8. #10 Levrier sits off them from gate 2, ran second last start, and Patrick Moloney can time the run late. He has to quicken when it counts, but at $6.50 against a fav that can’t win one, I’m happy to take him each-way.
5. Lillard $3.20
Barrier 2 · Midfield · Soft pace
Gate 2 in behind the speed, blinkers and visors on, and three seconds on the trot. #5 Lillard is ready to break through. The favourite sits even deeper from gate 11, so I’m not taking $1.90 on one with the same map problem. $3.20, on him.
5. The Quiet Immortal $3.20
Barrier 8 · Midfield · No leader
$3.20 for #5 The Quiet Immortal beats taking $2.80 on a fav that keeps missing the frame. He’s been finding the placings, Billy Egan goes on, and the nose roll helps him settle in the run. I’m with him.
7. Decanted $8.00
Barrier 9 · Pace · No leader
No clear leader, pace trip from gate 9, on a heavy track.
7. Madesian $7.50
Barrier 6 · Leader · Genuine pace
I’m with #7 Madesian at $7.50. There’s genuine speed engaged, but he’s quick enough from gate 6 to cross and lead, and the gear’s all on to help him settle once he’s in front. The favourite has to wind through midfield from the back on a Heavy 8 at $3.20. I’ll take the leader at the bigger price.
11. Imponderable $5.00
Barrier 8 · Off Pace · No leader
Third-up and peaking, #11 Imponderable has a second and a third in his last two since the freshen and finishes over the top of them late. No genuine leader, so the favourite is left doing all the work up front from gate 2 at $3.40. Blinkers and tongue tie switch him on, Thornton stays. At $5, he’s the one I want.
12. Bleak Mid Winter $9.00
Barrier 3 · Leader · Hot pace
What’s the angle in the last? It’s the gear. #12 Bleak Mid Winter has the brow band, nose band and ear muffs all coming off first time, and that can free a horse right up. He draws the rail at gate 3, so while the speed burns up front he gets the cheap run behind it. The $3.50 favourite, #2 Killiana, has to work across from gate 9. At $9, I’m happy to chance him.
