Heavy 9 at Cranbourne today, and we keep coming back to the $6 on Bellabama in the opener. She races off the pace from a wide gate, but in a no-leader maiden over 1400m that suits, and the price is where the value is. The ground is genuinely testing, so the map matters more than usual and the big fields don’t help. Seven we like across the card, none we’d call a standout, just a handful of prices worth a look. Marine Grade at $7 in a 17-runner maiden and Stellar Mofeed at $6.50 both read well if the heavy ground brings them into it. Pick your races here and take the overs where the market’s got a horse too short.

Race 1
1:00pm · 1400m · Mdn Plate · 10 runners

6. Bellabama $6.00

Barrier 7 · Off Pace · No leader

Blinkers come off and the nose roll goes on first time, and that gear switch is the hook on #6 Bellabama. He keeps finding the line, a second and a couple of placings in his last three, and Jackson Radley stays on for Clayton Douglas. There’s no genuine leader here, but #3 Thinkyahot settles back too, so I’m not taking $2.50 on the fav with the same map. Bellabama at $6 finishes over the top of them. On him.

Race 2
1:30pm · 1000m · Mdn Plate · 8 runners

6. Koko $3.50

Barrier 2 · Midfield · No leader

The fav does nothing for me at $2.80. #11 Majestic Son has to lead or land a spot from the rail, and there’s no room for error there. Give me #6 Koko. Drawn 2, Radley grabs a handy run with no genuine leader to chase, and he placed two runs back. At $3.50 on a heavy 9, he’s the better bet.

Race 3
2:00pm · 1300m · Mdn Plate · 14 runners

4. Marine Grade $7.00

Barrier 3 · Midfield · Soft pace

Seven bucks for #4 Marine Grade and I’m chasing that. Blinkers go on, Luke Currie’s aboard, drawn 3, and he settles midfield off a soft tempo. #9 Alien Angel sits even further back at $2.20 with the same problem, so I won’t take the short one. $7, easy.

Race 5
3:00pm · 1600m · Group Hcp (Bm62) · 9 runners

1. Deadly Press $3.70

Barrier 4 · Midfield · No leader

#1 Deadly Press won last start, and I like him working through his grades here. Currie settles him midfield from gate 4, handier than #13 Kiwi Jenni swooping from the back at $2.90. On heavy ground with no clear leader up front, that fav price is short enough. Take him at $3.70.

Race 6
3:30pm · 1000m · Hcp (Bm62) · 11 runners

8. Miss Cotoletta $4.60

Barrier 4 · Pace · Soft pace

Soft speed here and #8 Miss Cotoletta can go forward from gate 4 and boss it. Fav Nasraawy is no shorter at $4.80 and sits outside her, so I’d rather take the $4.60 on the one landing the front. Easy.

Race 7
4:00pm · 1200m · Hcp (Bm62) · 13 runners

14. Stellar Mofeed $6.50

Barrier 7 · Pace · No leader

Where’s the value in race 7? #14 Stellar Mofeed at $6.50. He keeps running into placings, plenty of seconds and thirds of late, and with no genuine leader he can roll forward from gate 7 and grab himself a spot. The fav Too Tough has to work across from a wider gate 10 and find some luck in the run. Happy to chase that.

Race 8
4:30pm · 1400m · Hcp (Bm62) · 13 runners

2. Jewel Bay $6.50

Barrier 5 · Midfield · Genuine pace

Genuine speed up front, and that suits #2 Jewel Bay dropping in behind it from gate 5. She’s won two of her last four, Radley stays on, and at $6.50 she runs over the top of the leaders late while the fav Decanted does the work in front at $6. Have it.
