Casterton Horse Racing Tips Sun 7/6/26

Big fields are the story at Casterton today, with most races drawing 15 or more and a Heavy 8 underfoot. Plenty going on across the eight, and we’ve found something we like in seven of them. The Apsley Cup is the feature in race 7, but the one we’re keenest on is Dubai Dancer in the last. Wet ground, big numbers, and a card that pays you for getting the map right. That’s where we’re focused.

Race 2
1400m · Mdn Plate · 12 runners

3. Eraja $4.80

Barrier 7 · Leader · Soft pace

Soft, rolling forward from gate 7, on a heavy track.

Race 3
1800m · Mdn Plate · 12 runners

4. Sadlers Symphony $4.80

Barrier 9 · Midfield · No leader

Tongue tie on for the first time, blinkers stay, and #4 Sadlers Symphony lands midfield from gate 9. In a no-leader race that’s the spot you want. The favourite settles even further back at $3.70 and has to do all the work in the wet over 1800m. At $4.80, Sadlers Symphony gets the gear change and the better map. Take him.

Race 4
1000m · Hcp (Bm56) · 8 runners

3. The Mariner $6.50

Barrier 6 · Off Pace · No leader

At $6.50, #3 The Mariner gives us a fairer shake than the $1.80 about a horse that settles even further back. Linda Meech sticks, he ran third two back, and in a no-leader sprint the off-pace runners with a late kick aren’t out of it. The fav has the same problem at a much shorter quote. I’m on him.

Race 5
1200m · Hcp (Bm56) · 12 runners

1. Tommyess $3.90

Barrier 1 · Midfield · Genuine pace

I’m with #1 Tommyess from the rail. Genuine speed up front means Linda Meech can drop him in behind it from gate 1, get cover on a heavy track, and pounce late. At $3.90, that’s fair enough.

Race 6
2000m · Hcp (Bm56) · 12 runners

12. Squander $8.00

Barrier 1 · Off Pace · Soft pace

#12 Squander gets the rail in a no-leader race, which is exactly the kind of setup that turns a $8 chance into a live one. Two wins, then placings each side of a freshen-up, and he’s been knocking on the door again recently. The favourite has to roll forward from gate 11 on a heavy track over 2000m, that’s a lot to ask at $3.60. I’d rather take the price about the horse with the rail.

Race 7
2000m · Hcp (Bm78) · 10 runners

1. Any Luck $8.00

Barrier 9 · Off Pace · Soft pace

Won three back and kept finding the line since. #1 Any Luck at $8 swings against the fav. Heavy 8 over 2000m is a slog up front. Have him each-way.

Race 8Best Bet
1400m · Hcp (Bm62) · 10 runners

2. Dubai Dancer $3.70

Barrier 6 · Leader · Soft pace

The fav has to come from midfield through the wet to win this, and at $3.70 that’s too short. #2 Dubai Dancer is the same price and gets the lead from gate 6, with blinkers going on for the first time. Chelsea Thompson rolls him forward in a 1400m race with no genuine speed, and the leader on a Heavy 8 controls everything. Give me the one in front.
