Canterbury Horse Racing Tips Wed 17/6/26

Elio in Race 3 was the one that pulled us up when we went through the Canterbury card. He settles off the speed, and there’s no genuine leader in that race, so the tempo could fall apart and let him swoop late at $4.80. The track’s a Soft 6 and there’s no real strength up front in a few of these, which suits the get-back types we’ve landed on. Five we’re keen on across the seven, with Elio the one we like most. The rest are about finding horses that can run on when the front-runners stop.

5. Elio $4.80

Barrier 5 · Off Pace · No leader

Blinkers go on first time and that’s the hook with #5 Elio. He’s been knocking on the door, a couple of fourths and a third either side of a let-up, and Tim Clark jumps on for the Waterhouse-Bott yard. No genuine leader means he can wind up late from off the speed and run over the top of them. The fav at $3.30 has done nothing wrong, but I’d rather take $4.80 on the one getting the gear change.

Race 4
2:35pm · 1250m · Plate Mdn · 10 runners

10. Miss Supernova $6.00

Barrier 1 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

Genuine speed up top, and that’s the race I want for a closer. #10 Miss Supernova draws the rail, Schofield saves ground, and she swoops late while Claudel does the donkey work out in front at $2.40 first-up. She’s placed twice since a let-up, so the form’s there. $6, on her.

Race 5
3:10pm · 1550m · Hcp (Bm72) · 9 runners

9. Astunner $8.00

Barrier 2 · Off Pace · No leader

The fav’s no good to me at $2.35. Mo Chroi sits right off them in a no-leader race, the same problem #9 Astunner has, except Astunner draws the rail and pays $8. He won three on end earlier this prep and still keeps finding the line, so I trust him to come home over the top of them late. Same map, four times the quote. I’m with him.

Race 6
3:45pm · 1900m · Hcp (Bm72) · 9 runners

6. Format $5.00

Barrier 5 · Off Pace · Soft pace

#6 Format at $5 is where I’m at. Third-up and peaking, a fifth then a fourth since the freshen, drawn inside, and over 1900m he can run over the top of a leader who gets it soft up front. Skip the $4.20 fav.

Race 7
4:20pm · 1200m · Hcp (Bm72) · 11 runners

5. Formal $10.00

Barrier 8 · Off Pace · No leader

I’ll take the $10 on #5 Formal here. Blinkers go on, and in a no-leader race he can drop in behind the speed and pick them off late. He’s been hitting the placings through most of his recent runs, so the form’s there. Eton’s no good to me at $2.70 from the rail when Formal pays better than three times that to swoop home.
