Soft 5 at Canterbury, fine overhead, and a few we’re keen on through the card. Audrey’s Lane in the 6 is where it pays for us, drawn 3 with the speed and the right price at $3.80. Six tips off an eight-race card, so a tidy little meeting rather than a thin one. Pace looks honest in most, which suits the off-pace types we’ve landed on.

Three placings on the bounce, Chad Schofield rides, and from gate 6 he settles off the pace in a race where the front-end should be doing the work. The favourite is $2.25 settling midfield with no real map edge, so I’d rather take $7 about Events coming home over the top of them.

The favourite has the same problem at a shorter price. #8 Lots To Love and Allegro Miss both settle back in a race without a leader, but Lots To Love draws the rail at $5 while the $3.70 fav has to come from gate 6. He’s also coming off a second, Braith Nock sticks, and over 1900m on a Soft 5 the inside draw should give him first crack at the run home. Take him.

Yes please. #3 Audrey’s Lane gets the blinkers off for the first time, the change you make when a horse keeps placing without putting one away. Three thirds and a win this prep, gate 3, and Mollie Fitzgerald sticks. The favourite Lennox is first-up at $4.50 from the rail, plenty short enough for one off a spell. At $3.80 to win, Audrey’s Lane is where I’m at. Best bet.
