Canterbury Horse Racing Tips Wed 8/7/26

Fine sky over Canterbury but the track tells a different story, a Heavy 9 that’s going to make them earn it. Seven races and we’ve had a look at all seven, from the Farfetched sprint out of gate 2 in the opener through to Steel Strike late in the day. No standout we want to hang our hat on here, so it’s a card to spread across rather than load up on one. Where it pays is the middle prices. Helldeeva at $6.50 coming from back in Race 2 is the one that catches the eye, but on ground this testing, the map and a soft run matter more than the quote.

Race 1
12:50pm · 1100m · Mdn Hcp · 7 runners

6. Farfetched $3.50

Barrier 2 · Pace · Soft pace

#5 Crossways is $2.50 off one well-beaten run, and that’s plenty short for me. #6 Farfetched keeps hitting the placings without quite winning, draws the inside from barrier 2, and Adam Hyeronimus rides for Gai and Bott. On a heavy 9 he can sit up on the speed and get every chance. At $3.50, I’d rather have the one knocking on the door. On him.

Race 2
1:25pm · 1200m · Stud Hcp · 7 runners

8. Helldeeva $6.50

Barrier 6 · Backmarker · No leader

I’m on #8 Helldeeva at $6.50. He won fresh last start, and with no genuine leader in this he actually settles closer than the $2 fav #4 Sanctum, who has to find them from further back. Winkers on, Zac Lloyd rides for Snowden, and I’ll take that price all day.

Race 3
2:00pm · 1200m · Hcp (Bm64) · 7 runners

4. Lady Invictus $3.30

Barrier 2 · Off Pace · Genuine pace

Real speed on here means the leaders cop it, and that’s the setup for a swooper. #4 Lady Invictus draws the fence at barrier 2, Adam Hyeronimus can drop her in and let her pounce late, and at $3.30 she’s the one I want over #3 Gatwick doing the donkey work up front at $2.40.

Race 4
2:35pm · 1100m · Hcp (Bm72) · 7 runners

2. Madrina $3.90

Barrier 5 · Pace · Genuine pace

Gear change is the hook. Tongue tie on first time, #2 Madrina takes up a spot from barrier 5, and at $3.90 I’ll take her over the $2.80 fav #5 Inoue stuck back in midfield. Have it.

Race 5
3:10pm · 1550m · Hcp (Bm64) · 10 runners

12. Agraffe Rocket $4.80

Barrier 2 · Midfield · Genuine pace

#12 Agraffe Rocket is the same $4.80 as the fav, but he draws the inside at barrier 2 while Lipstick has to come from wider at 6. McEvoy stays on for Kris Lees, he’s just won, and the genuine speed up front gives him a lovely tow into it from midfield. I’m with him.

Race 6
3:45pm · 1900m · Hcp (Bm72) · 11 runners

6. Trapalanda $4.60

Barrier 7 · Midfield · Genuine pace

Give me #6 Trapalanda at $4.60 here. He’s second up off a spell and keeps hitting the line without saluting, and with genuine speed on he gets the midfield tow he wants. The fav Think I Will has to burn petrol leading from a wide gate 10, and I’d sooner take the overs on the horse getting the softer run.

Race 7
4:20pm · 1250m · Hcp (Bm72) · 9 runners

5. Steel Strike $3.10

Barrier 1 · Midfield · Genuine pace

Genuine speed on, and the fav Astronomix has to burn from gate 9 to cross. That’s the race falling #5 Steel Strike’s way, drawn to get the rail from barrier 1 and land the economical trip. He’s gelded now with the tongue tie on first up, and at $3.10 I’m happy to take him over the one doing all the donkey work.
