Good 4 at Cairns and the track looks fair, so there’s no excuse in the going today. Only two we’re keen on across the eight races, and both sit at a price worth taking. Fools Play is $4.00 in race 6 with no clear leader in the nine, and from gate 8 she can slot in behind them and get her own run. Odegaard is $5.00 in the next off a genuine tempo, and while he’ll be settling last in a field of 14, that speed up front is what he wants. Two prices, two runners we like, and the rest of the card can go without us.

Nobody wants to lead here, so it should turn into a bit of a scramble. #6 Fools Play doesn’t need a leader anyway; she settles only three lengths off them and Ivo Fry can take his spot. Gate 8 is the query, no dressing that up. But #2 The Impeckable is the same sort of price from the rail without a win next to his name lately. Give me the $4.

I’m taking #13 Odegaard at $5. Gate 1 in a 14-horse field lets a horse who normally gets back sit a lot closer, and with genuine speed up front he’ll have plenty to run at late. #5 Tambo’s Justice settles even further back than him and costs $3.10. Easy call.
