Geelong Horse Racing Tips Fri 28/8/26
Big fields right through at Geelong, five races with a…

Where’s the value on a quiet Cairns card? Three we like out of the eight, and none of them are shouting at us. Soft 6 under an overcast sky, so nothing extreme underfoot, but enough give to matter late in the day. Very Good has to work from gate 10 in the 950m dash and the speed looks hot, which is the risk at $5. The Cup is the one we keep coming back to. No obvious leader in there, and Canberra Legend can put himself in the right spot from gate 7. Chartwell at $6 in the last rounds out a card worth a look, not a card to load up on.
6. Very Good $5.00
Barrier 10 · Pace · Hot pace
#6 Very Good has gate 10 against her, but over 950m with the speed on she can be rolling forward early anyway. She won earlier in this prep and a fifth last start doesn’t put me off. #3 Latin Boss is $4.50 and has to find a way through a hot tempo from midfield. I’d rather have Very Good at $5.
1. Canberra Legend $4.40
Barrier 7 · Pace · No leader
Blinkers go on #1 Canberra Legend and that’s the change I want here. He can find the front in a race without a natural leader, and from gate 7 over 1900m Sean Cormack can just roll him forward and dictate. #2 Sigiriya Rock is $3.30 and has to come from midfield to run him down. Form’s been messy, no hiding that, but $4.40 with the race set up on his terms is worth taking.
7. Chartwell $6.00
Barrier 8 · Midfield · Soft pace
Where’s the value in race 8? #7 Chartwell at $6. He’s been running honest without winning, and from gate 8 over 1250m Aidan Holt can slide him across into the one-one behind a soft tempo. #5 Arctic Bear is $4.50 and settles further back with the same slow-pace problem, so I’m not taking the shorter quote on the horse with more to do. Soft 6 suits Chartwell fine. Take him.
