$5 for Grandad’s Adiction in the 4 is the price we keep coming back to at Belmont. He’s drawn 1 in an 11, horse field with no obvious leader, so he can sit where he likes and take the shortest way round. Soft 5 with cloud over the track, and it hasn’t gone silly wet, so the map matters more than the ground here. Five races we’re keen on across the card, and that one’s the anchor.

The favourite #7 Boutique Belle sits even further back at $2.15, so I’m not touching the short one with the same problem. I’ll take Blue Sparx at $3.10.

I’m on #8 Grandad’s Adiction to win here. He drew the rail in gate 1, ran second last start, and Clint Johnston-Porter just has to hold that spot and get the cheapest run in the race over 1650m. #2 Back To Bondi at $3 has to burn petrol from gate 5 to get across and lead. $5 for the one saving ground. Have him.

Where’s the value at Belmont? #4 Must Be Nice at $5. He won last start, draws 6 in a big field, and Natasha Faithfull can park him midfield and let him build into it over 2100m. The danger #6 Awesome Force has gate 11 and a lot of ground to make up. Good enough for me.
